I just skimmed, so maybe I missed it, but the first question that pops into my mind is "WHY?"  why get a puppy from a breeder whom you do not trust?  Dogs are a 10-15 year commitment, a little research goes a long ways.  If you did trust the breeder, why not now?  what changed?  if  you liked the dogs and they were everything you wanted, do the "papers" make that much difference?  Or is it something else?  If I really did'nt trust the person I was to get a dog from, I'd walk away.  Life is too short.

If the parents were actually loaded on the database, you could research the pedigree. But if you've never had an amercan bulldog before. Chances are most of the names and titles are going to look like a bunch of random numbers and other gobble goop. Your not going to have the experience to "Read" a pedigree and know who had what problems, who is actually a cross bred mutts with hung papers. Who's line bred, in bred, out crossed or a mutt. I problably wouldn't have much luck reading a Dutch Shepherd pedigree either. Don't know the breed except at the barest levels.
If your puppy has papers, it's your responsiability to fill them out, and send in the payment to the CKC to get the dog registered. Puppies come with basically a form that the owners has to complete.
You cna change the name unless the breeder marks a box saying it's not to be allowed.

When i had my litter i registered them before i got them homes, so they already had names that i could trace, owners just gave the pups "Pet" names. Later when the dogs were older i got one back because the owners got divorced and i later sold her to another breeder. I asked the other breeder to not change her name. but they did any why. Which slightly irriatated me.
You need to find out some more info from this breeder before you buy a dog from them. This breed lives for a good 10 to 15 years.

A Zdog- Its not that i dont trust the breeder, but if they are willing to BS me on the bloodline or papers ect then whats stopping them for BS'ing me on their medical condition (past or present)

So far i have spoken to the breeder and she tells me that the parents are registered and the puppy has papers. So after i pick him up i will have to send in the papers and payment and get him registered. I did ask her for the parents names over the phone and she wouldnt give them to me, all she said was " that information will be on the papers" i again asked what bloodline it was from and she said johnson. i also asked of any medical issues or history of hip dysplasia and she said no.

Run Forest Run. If she will not give you the name of the parents I say bullshit.

Well knowing that my next question is why? Why do you trust this breeder? I wouldn't waste another phone call. No chance someone like this would see a dime of my money or get any more of my time.

I second the "Run Forest Run!"
It's a shame that the American Bulldog has become the next cash cow. Everybody and their brother is breeding them for no good reasons.
If this person can not produce OFA or PEnn Hip papers with a hip rating score, won't give you the names of the parents, or what line of Johnson dogs they are from (Mean Machine, Rose, ect....) they are most likely back yard breeders.
They don't know about any health problems because they have never tested and their dog got it's shots 5 years ago last time they went to a vet office.
There are a lot of actually honest and good quality breeders out there.
How much are they selling the puppies for?
What do you want in a bulldog?
Where are you located?

They are selling the puppies for 430 per puppy. they only have two left one is on reserve for me so i can go and look at it.
Well im not a breeder and i don't plan on breeding. With my low experience with dogs i wouldnt be showing him. My wife suffers from very bad anxiety and i have ptsd from past deployments in the military, plus we have 3 kids so i wanted a good family dog that pffers good protection to help my family feel safe, i work the graveyard shift at work so my family is at home by them selves all night and id feel safer with a good dog there with them. I've always had a fondness for the American Bulldog.

I am located in Akron , Ohio the puppies are being sold in Youngstown, Ohio

Whether you are a breeder or not, good, correct temperament and health should be at the top of the list. From what you describe, you will get neither. All here have given you good advice.  Find a reputable breeder. One that does OFA/PenHip, not just ask if there have ever been any problems. I know of an excellent breeder in NC, who tests, xrays, works their dogs, and at the end of the day, curl up with their little girl. It is the difference between buying a car from a reputable dealership and some guy on the corner who won't give you the vin to research said car. From one Military family to another, you're going to get taken on this one. If you want the name of the breeder, pm me. Btw, I have absolutely nothing to gain by referring you.

ok so i just spoke to the breeder once again. I asked her the following questions :
- if she had the pedigree for the parents
- if she had the parents ofa and penn hip
- any documents showing nci testing
- if they have been cleared of ithchoisis

Here is the response i got back

My pups have their vaccinations/ wormed which my husband gives and records and puppy registeration papers. You can have your veterinarian check for whatever else you want.

How many chances are you going to give them? They won't even tell you the parents names, why are you wasting your time with them?
