Unbelievable Intelligence of the Breed! - Page 1

Some of you have probably been fortunate enough to have this breed in your home for years....but I just got my first about 6 months ago.  I have always had GSD's and although I still LOVE my shepherds, I am thoroughly impressed by the intelligence my Aussi shows!

When he was only 12 weeks old, it was Christmas time and I had sleigh bells hanging from the knob of our back door so we could hear them ring every time someone came in or out.

My Aussi put 2 & 2 together that when the bells rang, the door opened!  He began to ring the bells to go out to potty without ever being shown!  Heck!  WE didn't even THINK of it!!!

He went one step further one morning when my husband was still sleeping when I left for work.  My pup took the bells off the door and drug them into the bedroom to wake up hubby and let him know he had to go!!!

Then this past weekend, pup is playing outside in the fenced area and the hose was laying out there.  We always keep the hose 'charged' so all you have to do is turn on the nozzle.  Well....I look out there and see him playing in the water from the hose.  So I think to myself, "Hmmm, must have left the hose on".  Well, throughout the day, every time I put him out to play, the hose would end up ON!!  So I hid and watched him.  It's a twist type nozzle...very similar to a fire hose...and he rolled it on the ground with his paw until the nozzle twisted enough to start spraying water!!!  He was having himself a WONDERFUL time!!!  

Do any of you have stories to share?  I'd sure love to hear em!!!   

Another update!  (Although I don't know if anyone is actually READING these posts!) 

Yesterday, I get home from work and see an empty box of dog treats sitting on the counter.  Seems as tho when I left this morning, hubby was in the shower.....so my Aussie pup and one of my GSD's had free run of the house for about 10 minutes.

The Aussie opened the cupboard where we keep the treats and got the box out.  He had a few before my Shepherd took over the rest of the box!!  We know this is how it all went down since the GSD ended up with the runs last night...and the Aussie had the nerve to open the cupboard this morning to see if I'd replaced the box!!! 

Man......I LOVE this breed!!!  :)

If you could only get him to cut the water off, then he could water the grass for you.  hee hee.  This is really cute. ecs

Wouldn't THAT be nice!  Maybe if I actually TRIED to teach him, he'd catch on as well!   :) 

So....yesterday I decide I'm gonna out-smart him and I hook the hose end to the top of the a-frame....lay it so it runs in the crack at the top the full width....see...this way 'outa sight outa mind'.

He has NOT wanted to do the a frame.  He always looks at me like I'm an idiot when I try to get him up there just for fun.  So yep!  This is the key (I'm thinkin to myself!)...no more walking outside to find the water's been on and my yard's flooded...dogs are a muddy mess!  Yes-ir-ee!  THOSE days are over!

I'm not in the house 5 minutes...go outside and the little sh*t has the hose laying on the ground turned on!  Geesh!  Who's out-smartin who here?  LOL
