Hey everyone.

I'm looking for some crate recommendations. Something 48"/4ft in length would be ideal. Something strong and sturdy as well.
Thanks.

They sell wire crates that big, how strong depends on what you are are putting in it and how determined that something is to get out. They also sell those aluminum crates, although they are not that big, they are strong.
They also sell aluminum "crates" that will fit the back of an SUV and are used for patrol dog duties. Those are bigger then the standard ones I spoke of above.

I've got a female that has never had a single problem in her large Kong great. It's big enough for her to lay down and sleep, etc. She's been good in it for 4 years.
However, last week, she apparently had to go to the bathroom really bad and busted out of the crate. Now that's she's realized she can get out of the crate, she smashes through the door some how and busts out.
I'm tempted to just zip tie the door shut so there's no way she can bust through it, but figured I'd also check and see what crate options are available.

There are many types of crates...Including many ranges of price...

I have working German Shepherds and I basically use what is known as an Airline Crate...They are fairly reasonable in price as compared to others but there are very strong type crates including what is called an "Impact Crate"...Very strong but the price is much higher also...
I have had dogs break the doors on the Airline Crates and I have drilled holes and inserted a rod to secure the door...
I also have a couple of Aluminum crates that I used for some dogs but don't use them any longer...

You can e-mail several Crate Manufacturers and ask explain to them what exactly your looking for and what type of dog and so on...

For general wire crates bought at most pet stores or online I use the GIANT size, not the XLarge 48". I have German Shepherds, working class med-high drive, DDR. The only issue I have had was with my young male (that I have now) Somehow, he popped the top off and it fell in on him, leaving him with half the room he would normally have. I would imagine it happened from him jumping on the sides, thus releasing the tension that kept it on. Several zip ties fixed that. They run $150 Since my crates are temporary (usually around 3 years old females can be trusted in the house without issue) they serve my purpose.

Otherwise if you need travel/stronger crates, Koots has provided some of the more durable choices.

I have had very good experiences with a company that makes standard size crates and will custom build to whatever size you want. Heavy duty aluminum powder coated to a wide range of colors or will color match.

Didn't have Impact or TNC crates on my radar - thanks for the info.

Sizing a crate for the house is different than vehicle transport. Dog should fit tighter in the latter for impact safety.

The ruff land brand seems popular on the FB group Koots linked, for good reason imo. I happen to use this crate as it is thick plastic, has smooth edges, light colored for minimal heat absorption, single mold for durability, lightweight, and has ample ventilation holes. I can cargo strap them in the bed of my truck, slide them back of my suv or stuff one in the back seat. I also use them indoors as they are easy to keep clean and maneuver. A bit more $$ than the standard, easily cracked halved airline crates, but much less than the aluminum, higher end ones linked here. As stated above, many options avail for your lifestyle at different price points.

FYI an intense dog can easily and quickly break out of a standard airline crate.
