I read somewhere that before the fertilized eggs are 24 hours old that the vert could give you an injection that would kill the fertilized eggs if you didn't want the litter and it was an unprepared accident.

Dog equivalent of a 'morning after' shot? That's probably why my dear old husband didn't admit to allowing the deed to go down until she was starting to show!!! We had actually considered breeding her to Wolf at some point, but we were going to do all the first things first, or at least, that's what I was planning on doing... Hubby apparently didn't think all that proper stuff was necessary......good thing I love him so much, I'd 'bout kill anyone else who messed with my dogs! jh

That injection has been linked for years to pyometria.  I'd rather take my chances first and find out if she took and whelp the litter.  You can also spay one just after she comes out of season, then there will be no more accidents.   ANd no litter.  Obviously that doens't work if you have plans to breed her later (no kidding people would ask if they could get puppies out of the spayed bitch or neutered dog !)   ATleast in this case, the puppies will be purebred and from nice parents and raised by someone who cares!

Good luck, you are in for a long couple of days...do you have good alcohol on hand?

yes, that shot is not used very often as it is tied to pyometra as firethorn said.

I think she will go on day 61 or 63 from breeding if she was bred only one time.. IMHE bitches are not affected by low pressure systems.  Welcome to breeding. I sent you a PM

I wasn't sure why 'Pashabasher1' felt he/she had to throw that into the mix....Carl made sure that wasn't an issue for us! We're ticking down to the wire, I could auscultate heartbeats today! She's resting a lot today, respiratory rate is up, heart rate up a little, temp still around 100.0. Tore up the whelping box, which I lined with newspaper....I took Beckett out for a walk, & nearly laughed 'til I cried when I got back, as I came up the front steps I could hear Kalie HOWLING inside the house! This long mournful howl...."OOOOOOOoooooo- I'm all alone in the world---ooooOOOOOOOO!" Poor baby! We were gone all of 15 minutes! jackie harris

I don't know why either Kalibeck.

Keep us posted on the pups, anyday!

BTW, just read on another post that panda is just 13 1/2 years old.  So we do get children reading our posts.

Kalibeck, I was just checking in this morning to see if Kali had her pups yet.  I have helped whelp a litter of  Weim. pups, things went well, even though mom didn't want to stay in the whelping box and everytime we would let her out to move around a little she dropped a pup.  Also the Repro. Vet said to give some Ice Cream after each pup, the Calcium helps keep the contractions going, the liquid help keep the female hyrdrated and the sugar content helps with energy.

Good Luck
Val
