Someone please help me get a clue here....so the dogs that do so well in Schutzhund are usually West German working lines?
I was under the impression most dogs from what was formerly W. Germany were show lines, and the REALLY good working dogs came from DDR, Czech Republic, Hungary, etc.

" so what if they get bad obediance they get over the top prtection and tracking. lets get it right here!!!"
How do you think a dog can have no obediance and have good protection ?? how would you get the dog to out ?? Tracking is ALL about obediance.
Someone is feeding you bs about these dogs.

A couple of things for you consider Joe,
The wall came down in 1989, all the real ddr dogs are deceased now and there will be no more, just descendants of these dogs. The originals may have been great but now it seems this type of dog is bred for sable color and head size, you wont see many that look like Lord did.
I doubt you could find any "ddr" dog these days that does well in any sport or anything else, they are usually purchased titled and just used for breeding machines to sell to people that are interested in a dog that looks like it could do the job, with very little in common with the dogs of the past.

I have been told DDR lines are very slow to mature. it can take 3-4 years for the average DDR line male to come inmto his own. most sch. people do not want to wait that long. I have also been told that they lack the prey drive of the wg dogs and that makes them easier to live with pet wise. some can become quite civil and defensive.
You have both west german showlines along with working lines. same with DDR. there were showlines and working dogs
