Allabout: It's actually called Bettathane. That is the stuff with the leather grain look to it that is being used. the Biothane is the more smooth vinal look.

Rick, that must be it then because mine does have a leathery look. And not a really rubbery feel.

I have a 15 foot line for agitation work and a 30 foot for tracking. I love them. Easier for me to grip and if they get dirty or muddy, you just wash them off.

Yep, agree with everyone who love them! They're great, don't deteriorate when used in inclement weather, can get wet, sandy, dog mouthed and still stays in excellent shape. The long line for tracking is especially useful. :)
The leather leads I found deteriorated over time unless you use leather cleaner and saddle soap on them often to keep them supple. Even then, they do wear out.
Just my opinion. :)
