Man 2.2 lbs is 128 dollars? yikes! How quickly do you go through this? And how do you store it? I can't imagine how enzymes could still survive if over like a month and not stored properly....I'm not a vet, know nothing about the product you mentioned above. I do know about prozymes a bit...I chose the vetraceuticals because it has not just the enzymes, but a wealth of other good stuff as well. It is 34.95 plus ship for a months supply approx for a shepherd size dog. They ship it once a month so that you receive it no longer then a month from the time it was made, and then you are shipped the next months supply the next month (a slightly different formula, it rotates so that while dogs receive the ingredients they should receive daily, ie enzymes, probiotics etc, they dont' receive the stuff they SHOULDNT receive daily allt he time.) It is refrigerated after opening.

As I said, I don't have an EPI dog, I know others with it. I watched a shepherd literally go from 80 lbs to like 50 in a short period of time, he looked AWFUL. I wish I could get in touch with his owner now.

Hi Shasta,

The enzymes for my dog last about 6-7 months, since she gets 3/4 teaspoon twice a day with her food. It ends up being about $20 a month. The enzymes typically stay good for about a year. It's best to keep them in a cool dry space or refrigerate them. I personally fill a small container that will last about a month and then refrigerate the rest. My dog has done wonderful on these enzymes, she was diagnosed at 10 months of age and she will be 5 this year.  I did try just using prozymes with her but they did not help at all, as they are a plant based enzyme, where as the pancreatin is from pig pancreas. Most EPI dogs need the enzymes from pig pancreas, plant based enzymes just aren't enough for them.  I do know some people will use the pancreatin and prozymes together and their dogs do fine on it.

Tigermouse,

I have a 5 year old with EPI that was diagnosed when he was 9 months old.  I have him on Biokase-V, which is half the cost of Viokase-V, and it works exactly the same as Viokase-V.  The website is www.thomasvetdrugs.com and if you order via internet and a "case" which is 4, 12 oz powder jars it comes to $320. If you put the letters "tvd" in the "discount/coupon" section, you get another $32 off for a total of $288. Viokase was running approximately $150 per 12oz powder jar the last time I ordered it so you can see the Biokase-V is a great savings.  (I sound like a commercial!)

Be sure to mix the powder completely otherwise the powder could burn the inside of the mouth. I mix with 1/4 can Pro-Plan Large Breed Chicken & Rice and that really works. Pour that over a low fat, low fiber, high protein dog food and mix.

Bottom line, though, my boy is doing great and his weight has been stable for years and he has even put on more weight. He now is a nice 98 lbs of pure muscle!

Good luck!
