Well said darylehret. And to stack the odds even more in your favor, only buy from a repeat litter not from a first time mating. Especially if the first litter is already at least 2 years old and looking very good, passed hipchecks, and even have some titles, then you are really loading the dice in your favor whether you are looking for a show or a working prospect. There are some well known kennels that have repeated litters 3 or 4 times. That tells you something. Also, it seems strange that a lot of American breeders never seem to repeat a litter.

Well Robert, I would expect a good bitch to contribute to the degree of 65% of any puppies outcome.  Without a producing stud used as well, one is unlikely to get a top winner.

Genetically each parent contributes EXACTLY 50% of the genes to each of their offspring. The genes which go to each puppy may differ as each parent has 100% of their own genes for nature to choose from for each puppy. This is why no two puppies are identical. A breeder then has to choose from the litter that which more closely resembles the desired attributes emvisaged when they decided on the mating.

Wayne

Thank you for including Colin in your list of dogs.  Colin and several of his progeny are always available to meet people and we can give you any information you would like.  We are only down the road from you so feel free to email me privately if you wish.  Nikki

Hi Wayne

My advice would be to attend a few GSD champ Shows in the UK and see the progeny from the dogs you like. It would also give you the oppertunity to meet breeders and see the dogs bred by several different kennels.
