I thought so too at one time.

This is not quite true. they may not starve to death quickly, just not too well.

And mine seems happy with about three ounces of fresh meat added, no more but also no less.

After a while DO NOT insist on your dog going your way. Some just won't. Yes, the GSD can not do well just because  the food is not tasty enough.

I am refering to a situation when a dog has never eaten well with a certain food.

I agree, no matter what the bag say's if it doesn't  have a taste the dog like's it's not a good choice.

I like to add from time to time: yogurt, egg, some raw veg, and some caned meat, just to spice their appetite, but don't try to go over board too much. :) good luck and don't worry too much, if you really think is the food switch it to another.

I had the same problem, dont give in to that puppy face.

feed once a day a for 15 mins. then remove. It takes only 3 days to make a good habit.

Its more harder on you than the dog.

Well, if you give in then be prepared to deal with a picky eater for the duration. It is never going to end.  Major brands of dog food are tested for flavor by - yep, you guessed it, other dogs.  Have fun............

Learn to know the difference between a dog ploying for better food and when a food is simply not tasty enough.

I used to worry about she demanding greater and greater portion of fresh meat, but this has not happened. She seems to need the added taste to eat enough to be healthy.

Just because a food is already preimum grade and tasty enough for most dogs does not mean that it has to be tasty enough for your GSD.

If a dog had accepted a food well and had done well on it, then the chance of ploying is greater. IMO
