I am going to say chow and chow, because of the head, chest and tail set. He is very cute

Almost all of my GSDs have had black spots on their tongues as well as black gums.  It's not uncommon.

Right, I've seen BLACK spots and gums on GSD's too... But I said he has PURPLE spots on his tongue :P

lab/pit bull/chow.....we call them "montrose dogs" or "heights" dogs.

back when the montrose and heights areas of houston were a not so nice place to live in, dogs very similar to these were very common. owners didn't alter their dogs and didn't keep them confined. the dogs eneded up looking very much like these. the were a mix of mainly labs, chows, and pit bulls...........some were nice, some would rather bit you as to look at you.

Thanks SitasMom, I have never heard of that before. Do you know where I can see a picture of some?

by SitasMom on 30 August 2009 - 22:08

Not right off hand. Someone I knew a long time ago had one.

They come in the pictured coat length or a more slick coat............usually the the same lt brown color, with the high tail carrage. The dogs seem to be medium to medium large.

I'll look around for photos.

Here is a video of Xena the Chow/Shep mix:    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9E4K0nFPGA&feature=related

Here is a video of Chloe the Chow/Pit mix (this one is hard to watch, it's a loving tribute to his dog he had to euthanize)

There are a bunch of companies now offering DNA testing to determine breeds but I don't know how accurate they are:

He looks so much like Xena. The resemblance is uncanny. Little bulkier around the neck, and the tail is curlier.. But dang, looks so similiar!

Looks like a GSD/Chow Chow mix to me, maybe a dash of Lab too. I don't really see any Pit Bull..
