You must remember that no book will educate you if you do not have an open mind.  I suggest that you also consult people who have been successful within these bloodlines.  Go to German Dog Shows (WDA, USA, SV, and yes, even AKC shows).  Try to assimilate all that you see and through discussions with knowledgeable people come up with some conclusions.

Kenkwsseler, I was like you. I was way deep with the American lines and educated myself with alot of reading, and co-owning and co-breeding dogs with the very best,  Ken and Delaine Thompson of Ken-Delaine, Betsy Carptentier of Bramblewood  Joan and Fran Ford, of Fran-Jo kennels.  I am had my fair share of the very best of American line education. But with the way the Am lines changed, I moved on, back to the German Bred lines. I had done some breeding and training way back in the early 80's with the German lines. The German lines have change some but no where near like the Am. line. Just need to learn the lines again...you know..whats hot and what not, and what is producing what. Can't wait to get my book...

I was never deep into American lines (nor was there much of a distinction between the two when I had my fist GSD as a kid in the early 70's) but I know what I like and after having brought my dog, Brandy, back from Germany with me in the mid-80's and then subsequently having bought another female from American lines, I recognized the difference and never turned back.

I am new to all of this and everyone around me calls me a sponge, where do you go to buy one? Sorry probably a dumb question. Kathyo

I don't think you can buy them in any store; you have to order them from a distributor.  Huntshep has them available here on the forum: www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/381770.html
