Petros

by Petros on 17 August 2010 - 05:08

1) The male has been bred before, a couple of times.
2) Of course I have checked the female!
3) Nature never took its course ALONE in pure breds, why should now? I have had 9 breedings before that, so I would not consider myself an experienced breeder regarding breeding tecniques. All the times nature took its course. BUT this time, the male JUST cannot aim right...I have tried it a couple of times before with this bitch with 2 much more experienced males (letting "nature" to work as I was thinking same way like some "experienced" here) BUT NO SUCCESS...

Trixx was right. I helped the male target and then I kept them together for 203 minutes. This way I had a tie!

Thank you ALL!

Hold the male on?  Restrain the female?  For God's sake, if they can't breed on their own they shouldn't be passing on the idiot gene.

Taping and gluing ears?  Sure, that's a great idea.  Just keep breeding floppy eared dogs, you can always glue and tape, right?

did they get a real tie, or did you hold them together the whole time?  either way, she can be bred if you held them together - just not ideal and would wonder why she or he couldn't get a real tie in that case.

I have done nearly 200 breeding's over the years and have always assisted ............. do not want a dog to get hurt .......... first thing how many times has the stud dog been bred ? Secondly I would think as someone mentioned above on here .... the possibility of a stricture ............... a good vet with a experience in fertility can correct this ....... or the other option is to do a A.I. .... artificial with invetro ............... and then then to cut the stricture prior to birth ............... have had this done a few different times ...... natural birth then was able to proceed ......... is always a possibility that sicerian (spelling ?) could also happen. Regards .......... Greg

Petros,is this the same bitch or progeny from this bitch? Why do you say purebreds can't reproduce on their own?Maybe you answered yourself in the post below.Do you really think it's a good idea to force breed these dogs.

I have a nice younf bitch who will be turning 3 years old in a couple of months.

I have tried in her last season (3rd one) to mate her however, even though she would let the male mount her, as soon as the male would try to penetrate she seemed to be in pain and then she was laid back. This went one from day 9 of the season until

Her vulva in normal condition is what I would say a a quite small one. When she is in season, it becomes swollen but still is only almost half the size of my other bitch (who has had already 2 litters).

I do not know if this is nature's way to warn me about something however, has anyone heard of this situation before and is there a way to tackle this?

Thanks in advance anyone who is willing to offer past experiences.

she may be too physically small to accept a male, or she may have a stricture.  Either way, you need to take her to a repro vet to decide if she can or should be bred - and if she is bred, if she can have puppies naturally.  If a female can't be bred or whelp naturally, IMO she shouldn't be bred.

I know nothing about breeding dogs, which is a big part of why I don't do it.
When you say breeding naturally, I assume you don't mean leaving them alone entirely?

As in, you'd still remain present to ensure the bitch didn't try to lay down or pull away from the male once they tie?

Petros take the female to the vet and get him to check out her heiman[ not to sure about spelling] my friends female had to have this sniped by the vet just a small op no stitches female was fine in a hour she could not get the female to mate and this was the problem after small op the female was mated and had a litter of 6 healthy pups she was fine with the mating to good luck

i may also say that we tryed this female on two studs(both proven) and both could not hold the tie, she was acting as if she was being raped, as she would go after them after they got inside her, but then a few days again we tryed and got a tie with one of the studs, she also did act again like  she was being raped and then when we tryed her next heat after that she was fine , no more problems , so i will say it may be a age thing and just not ready. my female was 2 years when i first tryed.

it can also be a constriction, but this is my experience and if she does not do this by herself then i would say to have the vet look at her....
