just tried the nasal strips today on a young dog just over 6 months with a double crease in one ear, they were both up as a 3 month old and the then went down, then one came up but the other one hasnt, have tried a few times with the x-ray like we normally do to no avail, as soon as i put the strips in ear up, and yes you cant see it, fingers crossed this works as he is off to live in fiji soon thanks wrlpool

I am guilty for putting my dog through this unessassary ear taping and gluing treatment. I wanted a nice show dog, and to potentially have my very own bred stud dog that I can train, title, and to show.

I could see it in his eyes that he hated getting this done, and so I decided not to tape his ears anymore.

I still love him regards to what he looks like.

Autobahn, please enlighten us all and point us to the line you use that is completely free of of any and all possible faults so we all may forgo the learning process as breeders. Thanks. FFS, it happens. A smart breeder puts the soft eared pups into pet homes and avoids that line in the future. Get real. And while I'm at it- I've set ears for quite a few training clients over the years and have yet to see a dog upset about it for the longer than the first 5 minutes. If a dog is going to pout or be that distressed the breeder has bigger problems in their line than ears, IMO. To the OP- if you put a bit of baby oil on your fingers you can gently roll it off, too.

I agree with autobahn

Has anyone ever thought about breeding dogs that don't require ears being taped? Last I checked we weren't breeding Basset Hounds.

Sad that 'breeders' have a list of instruction on how to bring the ears up when they shouldn't even breed the lines that show soft ears over and over.

If the ears aren't up by 5 or 6 months, then help is help....regardless of the impatience on the owners part.  My WL pups ears are usually up by 8 weeks and never need help during teething whatsoever!  But if the ears aren't standing by 6 months then do what you have to do, I hope the dogs are compliant.
Big heads are the rage?  So  head size is now the reason for breeding?

Autobahn, I didn't use it on a GSD, but on a different breed, just to let you know!  so before you spout off you may want to know what you're talking about.

Onyxgirl,
Big heads are absolutely the rage in multiple countries.  Have you been to a show lately?  I do have large beautiful heads on dogs that are a minimum of Sch 1 on Females and Sch 3 on males with at least a normal on hips and Kkl 1.  Further, My male has high a in trial (that's working) AND two other American Titles.  My female has a NATIONAL performance recognition award (that's working).  AND ALL of my breeding dogs a MINIMUM of V show rating (that means excellent)  My dogs work very well, thank you. So that is me and my breeding standards.  What perfection are you breeding that is so much better than mine?  I have my preference and I DO MY PART to breed dogs that fit (WELL) into the breed standard with having the highest standards available on hips and Kors.  I don't go around complaining about what others breed even if it is not to standard (I pity the breed if it is not).

So what I mean to say here, Onyxgirl, is don't complain about the change you want to see in the breed, BE the change you want to see in the breed.

Regards,

Hate Tear Mender for ears.....use Perma Bond Skin cement...it's better.
As for taping ears.....
We have "formed" ears for people of both WL & SL.....
IF a crease sets in the ear of a puppy....it will cause the puppy's ear to remain half down....WL or SL.
I see no problem with "forming" a puppy's ear IF a significant crease is present.
It simply straightens (irons) out the crease...so the ear will strengthen on it's own.
It will not "make" an ear stand...that can't stand.  If an ear is weak before forming...it will be weak after forming.
Weak ears is a true problem...in any breeding program or bloodline.
Only in "taping" have I seen flat ears stand.....as with the Doberman breed.

good for you wpool...keep up the great work. A bit defensive aren't you?
I'll "be the change I want to see in the breed" by supporting breeders who breed working dogs with good conformation to do the work, stable temperament and stamina~ not out to change the breed.
Exaggeration is bad in all circumstances.

Why is it here that when someone asks a simple question such as what removes tear mender which is a simple question, some just want to dig their nails in someone. Good grief!! Isnt this database a place where we can come to get some help without the nasty remarks. How pathetic!!!!!!!!

by crhuerta on 27 August 2011 - 15:08

FWIW.....the Unisolve is excellent in removing adhesive and glues.
Put some on a cotton square or wipe, and gently rub it on......the adhesive should come off pretty easily.
