It is great to trust the breeder, but as in any business deal you need to nail down the paperwork details. This only makes sense and I don't see why an honest reputable person would have any problem with putting the details of the transaction into a contractin fact they should insist on it. If the do object, run. Beware the "verbal agreement" They are impossible to enforce and even with both parties acting in good faith can lead to terrible misunderstandings.

What point I was trying to get across was that if he feels uncomfortable and is looking to get reassurance through paper work then maybe he should deal with someone he trust or feels more comfortable with. There is not a problem with getting paper work but like anything else papers are only as good as the person who produces them. Also try and enforce a overseas contract, you are at a huge disadvantage. Usually more expensive then the original transaction. So when dealing overseas or even here at home, deal with someone you are comfortable with, check out their reputation, and develop a relationship with them. In the last 12 months includeing this months aquisitions I have imported over 15 dogs without any problems. It is all in doing your homework and knowing what you want and who you are dealing with.

Hi GSDcrazy, i will try to explain how it works here in Germany, besides that i think (meaning ido not know this a 100%) it works simular in Italy. You are about to buy a female, sofar everything is just a normal deal. You will have a contract, paperwork (pink) on the dog. Now that female is mated : You will get a contract, in that it should be stated that the female was mated and to witch sire. Paperwork on the female. Studcertificate (the Studcertificate if filled out by the owner of the sire at the time the mating took place. You will recieve the copy of the studcertificate, as the owner of the sire has to turn the orignal in to the SV. This info will be registert with the SV and puplished in the monthly " Decknachrichten") Now there is something you have to insist on : You have to ask for a " Zuchtrechtsbescheinigung ". (Breedingrightscertificate) This is VERY IMPORTANT, as it means that the prior owner is giving up the breedingrights on this female and transfers it to your name. If you do not insist on this, the whelps will have the kennelname of the prior owner !! --------- If you have done all this , nothing should go wrong. As to your question of how can you be sure that the female was really breed to that sire : 1. DNA test the whelps ! But rest assured someone who claims that a certain mating took place with a VA sire will most likely not fool around because most of these topguns have a rep to loose ! Sorry that i respond this late ijust havent seen this thread earlier. Hopefully i was able to help out. Regards Ulli Dresbach
