Not sure if you realize this, but stud fees for the top GSD's are very, very reasonable compared to most other breeds. The fee for many top producers in other breeds is $1,500 and up. Frankly, I'm rather shocked at the stud fee for most GSD's since most of you ask a lot more for your puppies than do some with other breeds. The rule of thumb for the dreaded AKC breeders is that the stud fee equals the price of a show/breeding prospect puppy. I continue to learn every day..............

Vom Brunhaus, Can you please upload a current picture of your dog Gismo? Also can you post up his schutzhund scores and his Show scores?

In Germany, the stud fees cost a little less, but then you also have the cost of shipping the dog there, as they do not allow AI's. VA rated sire, depending on age and other factors, I've seen asking price between 700-1000 euros. V rated male? 600-800 euros. (Germany) In the US, a VA rated dog is typically $1000-$1800. V rated, SchH2-SchH3...depends on the dog, but I've seen $500-$1200. I've seen people ask $1000 for a SchH1 male. I guess it all depends on what the market will bear, what someone will pay is what someone feels that they can ask. Stud fee for my V rated, SchH3, FH2, Kkl1 lbz male is $800. (He is a VA Orbit v Tronje son)(and since I know you will ask, Brit, his best SchH3 score was 100-90-90)

I charge $800. which includes shipping chilled semen if necessary. I figure the money I save NOT driving 1.5 hrs. each way to a major airport twice and NOT boarding the female is worth the cost of collecting and shipping CS. I don't charge as much for my pups as most people do. Shelley Strohl

The standard as I have always understood it is the stud fee is equal to the price of a puppy. That is why often the fee is in dollars or pick of litter. The more titles the male has, the higher the fee and the worth of the puppies.
