I've got 2 100% West German imported traditional blk/red females(1 is a 2x Mexican Sieger VA Ernie vom Hofjagerhaus SchH3 daughter and the other is a SGRs VA Ursus von Batu SchH3 and VA Hillo de Marne LaValle SchH3 granddaughter) who have NO black in their generations at least 12+ gens back, and have successfully produced BLACK pups with BOTH bitches, one being bred with a bicolor, NOT even a black stud while the other was bred with my black stud dog.

And I did a stud service job for a 3rd part person's traditional blk/red bitch who was a SGR VA Fanto Hirschel great-granddaughter(also 100% West German conformation lines) and my BLACK Fanto vom Hirschel SchH3 grandson stud and she had FIVE out of TEN BLACK pups!!

All of these litters are on record with the AKC with DNAed parents for proof of my results, and the pups resulting were well over 85% West German CONFORMATION bred, not working lines.
Isn't the majic of genetics wonderful?

It seems to me that just about anything can be brought out in a breeding, depending on what certain pair-ups and the genetics allow. Some traits can be masked for several generations to suddenly pop out when the conditions are right, maybe never to be seen in that particular pair-up again. And black has its value in breeding programs, especially when it comes to preserving the crisp markings of saddles and keeping the preferred nicely masked faces of the traditional blk/red and/or blk/tans.

katjo74,

HOW INTERESTING!!!

My post above was asking about just such a thing! By chance do your dogs have black ears?  One can only expect that if a black eared show dog was never bred to anything that carried solid black it would never produce it.

Would you be willing to post the litter pedigree?

I'm rather new to this so I don't know how to post such, but I'm happy to give info:
The sire's info isn't all on here, but I can give you his sire (my black boy gets his black from the working lines in him)-my boy's sire is
blk/red and has all 100% blk/red WGR conformation lines(Fanto Hirschel, Uran vom Wildsteiger Land, Benny vom Heideloh, etc.). His sire is on here, Fanto vom Helle-Schuster. The info on his mother isn't on here-she is black and comes from dogs from the kennels Hohen Erle and such-lots of bicolors and blacks.

The bitches (both my own and 1 belonging to someone else) are here on the database-Uzit v Bullinger, Lisa vom Polarkreis, Abbie Gail Braddock. I'm not certain there's any progeny listed with pics to show what they produced or anything. Most of the pups were sold as good dependable family companions and AKC obedience prospects.

Debby, what I can do is go to your link and send you some pics and more detailed info-I'd be happy to do such!
