Ok I live in a rural environment and my dogs will eat anything that comes out of the other end of a cow, horse, duck, kangaroo, wombat etc. they are on it before I could possibly even see it, all I can do is worm them more often.

Pretty much Baldursmom, but I think they would take the crust if I let them
It does work though which is a relief to me. Why is it the poop eater always wants to burp in your face while trying to give you kisses ?

I've read that cheap kibble doesn't digest as well and passes, in part, through the dog. So, to deep nose poop eaters, they can smell the undisgested parts and eat it like food. One of my best friends had a poop eating lab an couldn't figure it out. Particularly since (bragging) he fed the dog Eukanuba. I told him that was his forst problem. IMO Eukanuba is junk and he should switch to a real premium brand. He did switch cold turkey and the next day the dog sniffed his poo, walked away and never ate it again.  SO, in his case, the low-quality food was the problem.

Now that won't stop him from eating other dogs' poo when he's out, but he did stop eating his own.

Eating poo is just hard to understand as we as humans are just grossed out by the thought. If your dog is parasite free then you do not have re-infection. If your dog goes to the dog park and eats others then you may have a problem. But eating it really is not going to harm the dog in question. One dog will not eat his own but ate the females. I just have to make sure the yard is kept clean. He never ate cat but will roll in it, thats when I get the bio-suit out to give him a bath. barf barf barf.

Always,
Cee

 Kinolog you asked,

"So, exactly who do they get to taste it, and then make a comparison to other foods?"

I watched a show  on cable about the "Royal Dog Food Taster" or something like that, of the British monarchy and the job went to a German Shepherd!  Can't for the life of me remember what the UK brand of food was, or the dogs name, but there you have it!!!  Maybe some of our UK friends can back me up with some facts?

I've had this problem with mine on and off for years. They especially like it when it warm I've tried several things like adding garlic or/and pineapples to the food. Nothing really works other than cleaning it up as soon as it hits the floor...which isn't always possible.

Spraying OC on piles worked for me, until I ran out and had to explain how I managed to go through so much OC in a month.

Once she realized I wasn't spraying down the piles anymore, she was right back at it.

She has grown out of it as she's gotten older.  Some do, some don't.
That I know if, there really isn't a way to break 'em of the habit.  The more I fought with mine over it, they more they did it.
Just prevent them from doing it as much as possible, and hope they grow out of it.
