We have two snakes, a red tail boa (7 feet) and a ball python (4 1/2 feet). They both are very gentle and loving in so many ways. Very easy to take care of, in my opinion. Our ball python could easily have been used for educational purposes. He is very very tame and docile. Our red tail, we saved at the beginning of this month from someone who was feeding her only twice a month small mice, where at her size that is like a potato chip. She is very sweet and has great potiential for really anything.

At first, I never would of thought about us having any kind of snake, but now they have became a must have, just like our shepherd.

We do not let young children hold either one without an adult around. The person has to be over 16 to be alone with one, just for safety purposes.

Hah, I used to have a snake as a kid. I really liked her. I used to take bathes with her. She was a ball python. The most fun part was feeding her mice!

I had a blue-belly lizard as a child. I used to tie it to my shirt with a string harness through a button hole when I went riding. Eventually it hung dead from my shirt of course. We also used to catch snakes on the railroad tracks on our way into town on our horses in Los Altos, CA. We would take the snakes to the Los Altos pet shop, sell them for $.50, then head over to the new Baskin-Robbins and spend the money for ice cream cones.
Ever try to get back on a horse bareback, one-handed, with a snake head in your hand and the rest wrapped around your arm writhing and hissing?
Not easy... I walked a lot. Every once in awhile we'd come across a rattlesnake on the tracks on our way OUT of town.
Say good-bye to the triple scoop ice cream cone when the horses spooked at the snake. Mine always ended up right in my lap, melting down the side of the horse, sticky ride all the way home.

My brothers used to have 2 little boa constrictors when I was a teen, my girlfriend & I would abscond with them & walk up & down the shopping district in our little town with the snakes wrapped around our necks or waists....just to watch the people freak  out when they noticed them. They did kinda have a personality. Not yucky at all! My mom gave them away when they got big enough to eat gerbils instead of mice....she couldn't handle feeding them the larger critters. And of course my bro's got bored with them.....

Can't watch the vid ..dial up is too slow, but big snake + little kid = big disaster! jh
