Sorry Lin, didnt want to drag you into the debate nor do I expect you to comment, I remember a pic you took when he went SG1 but couldnt find it on your site otherwise I would have posted a link.

Gustav in the Group they are not GSD judges, some of them wouldnt know one end from another, and some are very stuck in their ways prefering the 45-50kg overlong shortlegged type with hackneyed action, which I wouldnt call correct would you?

As I said last week, now we know why the BIG 4 kennels didn't sign the breed splt petition.

Out of curiosity - not taking a position one way or the other as to whether Lasko was a good ambassador of the breed - what you have liked to see instead?

I was there and think the dog CC was super, and dont forget most of the top males in the UK were there including the form dog Shotaan Fabius who won Open Dog in style if being honest, so Lesko and his owners and handler must be praised for the very good win. Well done to Andrew his breeder also, another certain to gain his title for you. The Bitch CC was stunning and popular with all round the ring, she is like a model standing alert, end of lead always a picture, and another from the Shotaan camp, Stephen Cox, Andrew Connoly and Ryan Rambridge are now miles ahead of the rest, particular Mr Cox and Rambridge due to their regular overseas jaunts and bloodlines they now have. Reason for this is ....Pencil.... you clearly mean the above breeders and Gayville as the Big 4, am I right? It is interesting as to why they did not sign, one, maybe two of them ok, but all 4 not signing does make you think. I think these young guys now who have allot of talent between them should be stepping forward, Malcolm Griffiths and Paul Bradley were same ages and ran great shows and were always at the fore, Stephen, Ryan and Andrew have the same aura as Malcolm and Paul and also many supporters around them but for some reason these guys Mr Shotaan in particular seem to have no desire to run clubs, be on a commitee and no regard for authority, they all keep there own close council. I respect these guys and really hope they step up as the new generation before it really is to late, they could be our Golden Generation....I hear Andrew and Stephen still dont really speak, shame, but Ryan and Stephen are big friends I hear so could they all work together? If they could what a team they would make, we need new blood, the new generation! Pencil do you agree?

Videx, I hope the X-spurts you refer to don't include me. I don't profess to be an expert, but I am one who has been around and seen enough to have opinions that "others" respect.....that's good enough for me. I preach the same thing consistently based on experience....I don't promote the standard on one thread and then type on another. I promote the standard as it was when structure and working ability were equal. Some have never seen the GS in this status in the showring, some have compromised this standard for popular conformance, and others truly beieve this new type of GS is correct. Nevertheless there was a time when the two were equal and having seen and owned GS at that period of time, today's type has evolved away from the utilitarian dog. Your sarcasm is fine with me but I don't have to have to be told what a correct standard GS should be....an expert????I don't know, but knowledgable of the breed???,I'll let others speak to that.

Gustav: The CONFORMATION of the GSD is judged around the World, and in Germany at "conformation shows". The TYPE & CONFORMATION of the GSD is "primarily" governed by the SV/FCI breed standard. Which can be seen at its pinnicle of its  "interpretation"  at the German Sieger Show annually - NOT at the Bunddessieger. The "illustrated" interpretation of the GSD breed Standard is available to everyone with a DVD player, or who attends the German Sieger Show. If, like me, you want to see a more "universal GSD, which brings together the Show (conformation) side and the Working side, then both sides will have to improve towards the universal GSD - one towards improved working ability (although some are excellent) and the other towards improved conformation, (although some are excellent). However I and the vast majority of GSD Show people will NOT accept critical comments about conformation and type, from GSD working enthusiasts, and I know for sure, that GSD Working people will NOT accept critical comment about working from GSD Show people. I would therefore strongly urge each side to desist and focus on what may need to be done to improve towards the universal GSD.

vertico: obviously anonymous but nevertheless very entertaining, thank you. Anyone who appears to agree and hold 'some' respect for "pencil" illustrates all the knowledge and experience within GSD, of a poodle enthusiast who also happens to own a pet GSD. Your final question: "Pencil do you agree?" says it all.
My comments here should NOT be taken as any form of criticism of Stephen, Andrew or Ryan, I personally admire all three, and I have told them so several times. All three give and offer our breed a considerable amount, as do many others in a similar way, and many more in different ways. Our breed needs ALL of these people with their wide range of talent, experience and knowledge of our breed, to pull together to make substantial progress for our breed here in the UK. On a point of fact vertico, one of the two joint TOP GSD males for 2008, who was clear TOP GSD 2007, and RCC winner of Crufts 2008, only beaten by Zamp, was NOT present at Crufts, and a CC win at the last Championship Show held in the UK, does NOT qualify any GSD to the title of the "form dog". Our breed requires depth and breadth of talent, experience and knowledge to come together in order to sort out its current serious shortcomings and then progress.

Both the male CC winner and the female CC winners are superb dogs, the female, imo, is outstanding, the male is one i have always loved. Congratulations to both and all winners. David, i agree with both your last posts, well said!!!!!!  liz
