Hey Blitz, I agree with you 100%. Nothing like a baby coon to brighten up ones life....lol. You can watch them for hrs on end, however they do grow up,and in almost ALL cases challange it's cartaker, trust me on this,a 10lb raccoon can fool you into thinking it is a 25olb black bear. Deer are not prone to contracting the rabies virus but can infact do so as any warmblooded animal Just thought I'd add my 2cents. Hope you and the family are well, Happy Holidays! Charlie

And I have NO IDEA why that just happened.......lol. Sorry

Hi Charlie, We're all fine thanks. Wishing the same for you and yours. How are your dogs doing? Coons can become handfuls as they mature. It's exactly as you said, a 10 lb one can be as tough to handle as a black bear. We had a big fat racoon as a patient; he probably weighed at least 25 lbs and he was every bit as mean as a black bear and had very, very sharp teeth. The vet had to wear welding gloves to pick him up. He wasn't able to bite through them. They are cute, but dogs make better pets overall I think LOL.

A friend of mine found a tiny baby coon once, obviously orphaned. She hand raised it with all the love and care in the world. And how did the little feller pay her back? He got out of his pen in her neat-freak Dad's garage one night and helped himself to every single one of the 100+ babyfood jars, tops neatly screwed to rotating PVC pipe mounted over the workbench area, that her Dad used to organized his fastening hardware. I never laughed so hard in my life. Her father was NOT laughing. End of Racci's tenure as houselhold pet. LOL

I raised a baby coon and had as a pet for several years. It gradually left more and more until it finally never came back. About three years later while I was off to college it came back and my mom feed him "Risky" and he climbed into his favorite chair and spent the night. It was cold and snowing. The next morning he left and we never saw him again. He would follow us around like a dog and go swimming with us. HE was a great pet.
