Ajax v Rohnsaler Bach is an amazing dog.  I hope one day to have Dennis send me one of Ajax's puppies.

Judging by photos only I find I prefer the older dogs like Dingo, Canto and Lasso di Val Sole, and some of the foundation Trienzbachtal's appeal to my eye - Gundo especially and Tannie. Jack v Trienzbachtal's pedigree here has a lot of really good looking dogs IMO. I don't know much about their working abilites other than Lasso was touted as one of the best working showlines there ever was and I th ink Jack was supposed to be a good worker too.  More of the older dogs look to me as if they could git er done. Most showlines I see today are way too coarse and overdone to have enough endurance and I won't go there again about those heavy Akita heads with too much stop. Ugh!!!. Some here look more like a  GSD x Rottie. Sure they can manage to get their Sch titles, but could they work 24/7 ? I doubt it, most look like they are not very athletic on their photos. In general working lines look to me to be far more agile and athletic. If a GSD, any working breed for that matter, is not built like an athlete, it's not good for much other than pretty window dressing.

Styles/types change over the years in all breeds, usually as a result of what is winning in the show ring, rarely as the result of their performance. The German Sieger has the biggest influence on this breed followed by NASS and the US Sieger. How many do you know who wait until one of those shows is over before they plan their next litter wanting to use the Sieger or Vice Sieger?  In 4 or 5 months we'll be seeing litters plastered all over this board sired by this year's German Sieger. That's what sells the puppies., sports fans.

Good discussion!

As we can see...we all have our own views on what is in our mind the best representative of the breed (I'm talking structure only, we can't judge working ability on a picture as you all know!)

I guess this is why there's so much ambiguity about what should or should not be.  Even judges don't agree in a number of area so that is why GSD differ a round the world. One of my Friend who is a judge just came back from Australia and guess what?

Now i don't want to make people cry on this list but he said he saw beautiful GSD over there that would make a select in AKC judging...I guess the ugly crippled american dogs are going to be all around the world in not so long.

As for the dogs shown up there in that post..a lot a beautifuls GSD's..Isn't it the most beautiful breed in the world?? WOW!

I am no judje, and I am just picking dogs that I like the looks of.

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/439227.html

I think Bazi is really nice, and I hear that he is a good worker.

Grand vom Ritterberg. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/14854.html

Great old black DDR dog. I like his looks, although I do not think he is as popular as Held vom Ritterberg (http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/17017.html).

Lastly, a great producer V Pushkaß vom Haus Himpel ( http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/6111.html )

The Best of all in my opinion.

From what I've seen in video and pics I think Triumphs Gucci looked and acted like the perfect GSD. Not too angulated, No roach back. I understand he was impressive in exhibitions even at a late age.

This is my Tom above, at 3 yrs

And he reminds me of this male

Ch. Bar V. Weiherturchen      http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/404085.html

But , I prefer this picture of him out of my book.

I would say it is incredible considering

Bar was born in 1964

and Tom was born in 2004

Here is a picture of a picture of Tom at 4 just about a month ago.  The color of his tan is much darker, but because I took a digital picture of a printed picture it didn't come through very well.
