Hi Everyone,
I am going to be picking my new puppy up soon and as a buyer here's what I would love to have from my breeder:
  • Current pictures of both Sire and Dam.
  • Copies of Sire and Dam hip and elbow certifications.
  • A video of them working would be nice.
  • Pictures of littermates and ancestors (if available).
  • Five to Six generation pedigree with titles, hip and elbow scores, colors, height, ZW ratings, dates of birth and death, and any other pertinent info that would be of help for future breeding.
  • Health and Vaccination records.
  • Instructions for feeding and maybe information on daily routine.
  • Registration and OFA forms.
  • Instructions/information on how to get puppies hips and elbows SV certified would be nice.
  • I really like the idea of a blanket or toy that has the mother and litter mates smells.
There is proably some other information that would be nice to have but, providing a collar, leash and food for a week is really not necessary. I feel that a buyer should be prepared and already have those things ready at home or have with them when they pick the puppy up.

Also, it would be nice to have a list of helpful items  to have for buyers who are flying (carry on) their puppies home with them. An example would be disposable puppy pads for the crate.

IMHO,

C, A lot of what you would like to see in a packet is unrealistic since some of it are things your vet will suppy for one, such as ofa forms. Thats two years down the road anyway to become OFA'd. I already will supply copies of the sire and dams certs but past that its ther customers job to research. I give them the Bouvier Data base which has not only my dogs but each of their ancestories going back in it. It takes only a few minutes to do the research. Now it may not be that easy for some Bouviewrs but since mine have such well known pedigrees they can be searched back to the mid 50's very easily. Some things you just have to do for yourself as a new owner. Thats part of leartning about your dog. Just my thoughts

S,
I am sorry but, by your response, it does not sound like you are very helpful to your puppy buyers. Granted, I do not know about pedigree research on Bouviers but GSD pedigree research is very time consuming. Yes, I agree that a buyer should do a LOT of research before they buy a puppy. I also think that you can learn a lot about a breeder by what they send their puppies home with. Also, being an experienced sales person I can tell you that almost everyone loves to get free stuff with a purchase (whether it's information or a tangible item).

I do not think that what I would like to have is unreasonable. First,
  • the breeder is going to have the most current pictures of sire and dam.
  • suppling the puppy owner with copies of the parents hip and elbow certifications should be a given.
  • I said a video of the parents working would be nice to have. Some time those videos are not available by any other means than from the owner.
  • Copies of pictures of the puppies litter mates should also not be a big deal, since I am sure the breeder would have already taken them.
  • While I have already done extensive research on my puppies pedigree there are some description points that the breeder may be able to supply that can not be found by normal means. Such as height, death dates or what their ancestors died from.
  • The breeder is going to be the one to tell me what vaccinations and vet exams have taken place not my vet.
  • A feeding and routine schedule is only going to make the ownership transition easier on both puppy and buyer.
  • The breeder should be the one to provide a signed registration / transfer of ownership form to the buyer.
  • The copies of OFA forms aren't a must but would be nice to have. Also, my breeder wants to see prelim x-rays at 12 months.
  • I only asked for instructions to the SV because everyone on here describe it as being a pain in the A** so helpful suggestions would be nice. Especially since I have never done that before.
  • If she does not provide a blanket /toy no big deal because, I have already purchased a toy, to send to her, for the mother and litter mates to play with, until I pick my puppy up.
Let me add that I am not even sure if my breeder is going to supply me with anything. However, I will be requesting most of  these items from her because I feel it's important to have as much certified information on my puppies history as possible.
