We pay $100 per year. This includes all three phases, two days a week most of the year (one day a week during a couple cold winter months), and all helperwork. For a family membership it is $150 per year.

Shelly, Menlo Park is still about the same it was a few years ago. I have not heard that their fees are that high. They do need to pay the helper, but he is excellent and travels a few hours to get there for each training day.

i think there is a difference between a club and a training group. there are many training groups (where you must pay the helper/trainer to help you train your dog) that are attached to clubs. Then you have clubs where almost everyone know what they want to do. I think both are great and needed. everyone at my club has titled a dog and know how they want to train, i think the group is great for those new to the sport. it helps them learn the sport and the helper/trainer is rewareded for his/her efforts. personally as a helper there is nothing i hate more than running around like an idiot trying to get someones dog to bark or chase a rag, just to have them not show up for a month. so i can do it all over again. Dues vary from region to region but the silent killer for us all is gas. id most likely cry if i new how much money i spent on gas last yr.

Thank You everyone for your informative input. Hodie, thanks for detailing to everyone the expense involved in holding a trial/show. I am complete agreement with Hodie on the expence of entertaining a foreign judge. I don't care how far inadvance you purchase an international flight, you are not going to get it for less than $400us. Plus how may days off from work do you take to prepare for the trial? When you low ball the expences someone gets caught holding the bag. Kyle

Kyle, For what SV German Judge living in Germany do you think you can pay around $400 for an airline ticket? Even a ticket to someplace on the east coast costs more than $400. We get absolutely the best rates and a ticket costs in the neighborhood of $1200 for a Judge coming to Colorado from Germany. The current Euro exchange rate being 1 Euro=$1.35 (wired some money this week to Europe) means a ticket is about 937 Euros. I just don't want you to have sticker shock! We have had excellent SV judges come to judge our events. We also try very hard to show them a nice time without being extravagant. If they bring a spouse, it does not cost more to put them up in a motel and food is minimal. They do pay for airline tickets for spouses, of course. We provide a nice gift basket in the motel room with fruit, nuts, crackers, cheese, water, wine, just so if they wish after they leave us each day they can also relax without having to walk to the nearest store. In some cases, especially if I can not leave, we provide a vehicle and pay for gas and food for some sightseeing. We also try to give some small gift as a thank you. After all, yes, they are minimally going to be travelling more than 16 hours one way to come here. Many leave jobs and family to come and we want our experience for them to be something they will really enjoy. They do and they are always willing to come back or speak on our behalf to other SV judges. As far as events paying for themselves, our last event was the first event that we have held where we came close. We are fortunate not to have to pay for the place to hold the events. We too seek donations and Kong Company and Royal Canin and others have provided gracious assistance in material goods, but as yet, we sure have not had any other companies willing to sponsor medallions etc. So our members contribute and others who participate also make donations. We try always to do it first class, but tastefully. All in all, it turns out to be an expensive event. But we think it is worth it and most people who have attended have also enjoyed the events.

I am in S.E. MI. We pay $100/year plus $20/month for 10 months (Jan, Feb are always a bit iffy weather wise). There is a $100 one time equipment fee for new members. Once you have titled a dog to SchH1 there is no limit on the amount of dogs you can work. Since I host the club I don't pay the $20/month and the club did give me a bit extra to help cover the expense of keeping the tracking fields mowed. I think our family membership fee is $150/year. Helpers also get a 50% reduction in the monthly fee so that saves them $100/year.

lhczth we have a similar rule rule in our club except you must title a dog to a sch3 before you can work 2 dogs.
