One thing we can all do is to send an email or letter (better) to the various companies that refused to acknowlege the use of dog fur, or like Penney's pulled the coats, blacked out the label & put them back on the shelf. Remind these companies how quickly information spreads on the web, remind them of how so many of their clients are dog lovers. We can also spread the word to other friends, and so on.

I did as Blitzen advised. I googled "dogs for fur". Wow, what an eye opener. In the past, I thought I was doing the right thing by only wearing what was labeled as "fake fur". Now I know I was pretty naive to trust the labels. I'm tossing the coat I got for xmas, it's trimmed with "fake fur", but the label says "made in china", oh yuck. Since the only way to know for sure is through DNA, I will no longer buy anything that has "fake fur" on it. That is my "line in the sand"!

I've made the same mistake myself and ended up trashing a fairly new "fur" trimmed jacket.

I've never owned a fur jacket in my life.

The point of the various articles we were speaking of is that items labeled "fake fur" are many times actually dog and/or cat fur. Conveniently for some manufacturers, it takes a DNA test to establish what the fur is made from, so they can mislabel items as "fake", but go right on using dog and/or cat fur, since their profit margin is so much higher.

If you have that many concerns, don't buy anything like this made off shore. Items made in the US have a much higher chance of being as advertised. In the meantime, I will get my furs where I know I can trust they are what they are supposed to be.

I wonder what the Geico caveman thinks about all this?

Myself I don't care if anyone wears fur coats but I don't. To each his own.
