Thanks guys!

Alexis, I truly think that we are wasting our time with GSDsportdog! Unless he likes to irritate us. He certainly has succeeded.

Nia, I love your "English" explanation for him to get lost, lol. Gina is the third titled sable female out of my kennel, but her mother is a Haus Dexel female. My other two sable females have not left me with anything of note. Quora's offspring was too tall (size really matters nowadays) and she herself died too young due to bloat. Winni had trouble conceiving, we retired her to a nice pet home. So, I am putting my hopes on Gina and her mother Vila. I also gave in to my daughter and kept a little sable female out of my last litter. She is only 9 weeks old, so it is too soon to tell how she will turn out. But her temperament is great and that is very important. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/537160.html

Watson,  Alex does go back to Buster's litterbrother Bito on his mother's side. And it is very rare, or almost impossible to get solid black dogs out of showlines. It would be an odd ball puppy, but it has happened. I co-owned a dog named Ivy vom Haus Dexel (a showline female) who produced a solid black puppy when bred to workingline Xito v.d. Maineiche. So, she did carry that black gene over. In order to produce black puppies, both parents need to have that gene, unlike sable, which is a dominant gene. Unlike GSDsportdog, I do think that there are plenty of beautiful workingline dogs, especially black ones! Here is my little boy Onyx at 4 and a half months old (you have to excuse his left ear, he is teething heavily): http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/521572.html  We did a bit of show training this weekend and I took a few photos to send over to a friend in Germany. Right now, he has the angulation, topline and gait of a showline dog. Hard to say if it stays like that, but I am hoping (he loves his red tug):

That is a quality pup. Another thing about that black making it in the BSZS is that there must be a couple good looking working line dogs doing well in the shows.

Thank you Watsongsd and Zacsmum. Onyx is no accident either. I researched a lot and for a long time before doing this litter. He also has nice littermates, all black of course. Alex is a beautiful dog and I wish his owner luck this year in Aachen at the Sieger Show. Another successful workingline contender besides Universal Sieger Javir von Talka Marda last year in Braunschweig was V (BSZS) Campino vom grossen Schoenberg (although not black, a beautiful dark sable who really stuck out in the ring): http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/516871.html, coincidently an Asko vd Lutter-grandson. Closer to home, I really like Wanko vom Koesters Eck: http://www.lundytrainingkennels.com/wanko.htm. Unfortunately, he is getting up there in age. Both, Campino and Wanko also carry East German bloos which is very interesting, because I truly think that these dogs can offer a lot when added to appropriate lines.

These are just a few examples of "ugly workingline dogs".

Chris
