GSD is definitely my favorite.

Second: Picardy Shepherd

Third: leonberger

and if I were in a position to have another permanent resident to the house, I would be stealing Molly's chi Tigger.

I've had many different breeds growing up and prefer the larger breed dogs myself, but I'd have to say after the GSD I really like Rottie's and Dobie's-it's hard to find well bred one's anymore.

Going off of looks alone I love Akita's too but probably would never own another one.  I had a beautiful Husky when I was a kid but he was the great escape artist, dug the hell out of the yard and if he got out good luck trying to catch em.

Out of all the breeds we've ever had by far the GSD has been the easiest to train.  I've had less destructiveness from a GSD than any other breed and they've been the easiest and fastest to house break.  I don't think I'll ever own anything else again.

English Shepherd

The English Shepherd is an extremely versatile breed of working dog, developed in the United States from farmdogs brought by the settlers from England and Scotland. The English Shepherd is a highly intelligent, practical all-around farm dog, being used as a herding dog, watch dog, hunting dog, vermin eradicator and child's companion. It was possibly the most common breed during the 1800s before fancy pedigrees became en vogue around the turn of the 19th century. Many farmers appreciated the breed for their versatility and not for their flash or strict conformation to a standard of appearance. These dogs were bred to do various tasks around the farm and not for show.

Unlike some other herding dogs, as a breed English Shepherds have not been specialized to work one species of livestock. English Shepherds have primarily been used on small diversified farms that have a number of different livestock species, including cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, and fowl. English shepherds both herd and protect livestock.

I had one of these as a kid from age 4-16. Best dog I ever had and I thought she was a mutt. I just found out it is a breed this year. When I move to a bigger place, I will be looking into getting another for sure. They are not recongnized by AKC, probably their saving grace.

I recently got a Parson Russell Terrier...he's crawled right into my heart. He's the toughest little dog and keeps up with my GSD's :)

molly, that little chi is the cutest thing! brindle too - i've never seen that. i'd be so afraid i'd step on it and kill it that i'd never get one. saw a 3 month old chi in a guys shirt pocket one time - cracked me up. when angus was younger and about 75 lbs, he used to play with a 3 mo chi in the obed class after his. it was fun watching them smell butts! angus would lift the little guy up in the air on his nose. sometimes he'd bend his head down a bit, and the chi would stand on his hind legs, cup angus's nose in his paws and they'd just smell each other for a min or two. the guy who owned him let him be a dog, not an accessory, so he was a neat little dog.

I agree with Blueshep...Dalmation WORST ... just because they seem to be over the top and do not listen well...virtual kids for life...had one...wouldn't try another.  I also do not care for little yippy dogs.

Yellowrosie - not getting into a pissing match with you,all i said was mine cockers are hunter not showdogs.I never said your cockers couldn't hunt. Most show cocker anymore can't go out into the field and hunt like they were bred to do. (they don't have the temperment for it anymore) I could show Laci;Levi in Canada if i wanted to since you can't show sables in the AKC show ring anymore thanks to the show people.I bet you don't like the sables  cockers  either.   I  been hunting cockers in the field since 1984 and that were i will stay with them.My cockers also don't live in a crate they live in the house and sleep on my bed.I also use to keep my cockers in show coats but i groom my own dogs and with 7 cockers it is way to much work to keep them up as you know.Lou is a choc sable he was one of my pups that was stolen two years ago and a shelter called me back in Dec .I was so happy to have found him and get him back. This picture was taken after i groomed him when he came home.I think sables are just beautiful
