George, please post some pics of your dogs so that we can all benefit from your vast knowledge of type and conformation. You are one sick, green eyed monster. To post such personal comments about someone elses dog, that you have never seen in the flesh is just sick, and shows what a nasty little troll you are. Keep your nastiness in check, one day it will revisit and bite you on your no doubt fat arse, hope so, coz your arse is where you are speaking from at this moment in time!  What have you ever done to improve the breed? Please englighten us?
Lesko is fab, and deserves the accolade he recieved. George, put up, or shut up!

Thanks to Lesko's owners and to you Lin for posting his pics and proving what a superb dog he is.
He reminds me of my Zandi (Daro son) although completly different breeding

Mostly I comment on working issues on this forum; however I have had an interest in the breed side for years.

It occurs to me that, in the UK, there is a hearts and minds issue to be won out there in general dogdom. These issues have been highlighted, and exacerbated, by the recent adverse publicity surrounding our breed, and can be illustrated by a conversation I had post Crufts with work colleagues who had attended the event.

I got into this conversation after hearing comments about “roach backs that can’t walk properly”.  Discussions extracted that such views had been influenced by the recent TV programme on the matter, underpinned by a perception that, if something comes on the box, the presenter must be right- they are, after all, “experts”.

I did try to put them right on the subject; the point that the “cripple” argument was not born out by the relative lifespan longevity of the GSD as one of the larger breeds. I also explained the breeding principle and controls and balances promoted by the SV (and most of the rest of the World) ; this was a revelation to most of the group, who were very positive and approving of the system.

Don’t get me wrong; I don’t approve of extreme dogs and size is becoming a problem. I also think that dogs promoted as an example of “The best utility dog on the planet” should be able to exhibit a better standard of work than that currently on display every year at the Breed Sieger.

But the aspirations of the system are light years ahead of anything in the UK. Individuals should stop fighting among themselves, and concentrate on highlighting the positives of our breed; misconceptions at this time seem to be running riot.

An excellent post Nugget, the SV system is slowly developing here in the UK, as I am sure you are aware, so much more needs to be done. The SV "dental notation" system has not been introduced, even though I have requested a WUSV Club to do this over 2 years ago. I despair when such simple and yet vital SV systems are ignored by the WUSV Clubs. There should be an annual programme introduced here in the UK, by the WUSV Clubs.

1) First a seminar to explain the SV breeding qualification process and requirements
then the programme to achieve the qualifications - scheduled throughout the year
All dogs over 18mths? to have SV 'a' stamp for Hips & Elbows, SV DNA test, Tattoo,
2) an AD (endurance test)
3) a BH test (traffic of life test)
4) a Sch1 test (tracking, obedience & protection)
5) a Show grade (minimum G) (this can be obtained at our Our British Sieger Show)
6 a Koerung (can only be taken when ALL previous qualifications gained, and in the year they are 2 years old)

If such a programme was organised annually, some dogs may complete the full qualification through to a Koerung, others may 'pick up' where neccessary, the following year to completion. If required more 'items' of the programme could be organised, for example more AD and BH tests. Many people would be delighted to achieve one or both of these with their dogs, and could then possibly do the Sch test the following year.

This programme could and should be repeated annually, with more of each element where demand indicates.
Even if only a few dogs complete the full qualification process in the first year, others will be on the 'ladder' for possible completion the following year, or years.
Such a programme is neccessary, and desirable here in the UK. The WUSV Clubs need to get their act together now.
A couple of Regional WUSV events (Landesgruppen Shows) should be held next year and their number increased over following years, in addition to the British Sieger. This will also assist in the gaining of show grades.

Excellent posts both Nugget and David.  I sincerely hope that the viewers sit up, take note and start their training programme with one dog now.  Prepare for the future.  Many will not have trained before and this is an important aspect of the future but with patience and determination we can all do it.  I have and to prove it it is in the Körbuch.  1990 with
Catja v Seelord.  The first dog is the hardest.

I have started a NEW THREAD on "SV system - UK"

This proposal is simply to offer the opportunity for those who may want to follow the SV system with one or more of their GSD. It is NOT aimed at replacing any Kennel Club systems, or the KC show system. It is additional to them, only for those interested. I hope that is very clear

Hi David

as you probably know, Alyson and I have done several seminars introducing and explaining the SV system, we have a very good power point presentation that we would be happy to show at clubs around the country if people are interested. We will hopefully be holding a few seminars again this year including the practical side of the system with trainers introducing Schh obedience, tracking and protection work, these seminars were very popular and well attended. The offer is there for the theory seminar if anyone is interested.

I would like to congradulate all winners of Crufts this year,
But mainly I wish to express my support for the judge Mr Stanbra's decicions and would be happy to show my dog under him in the future and get his HONEST opinion.

i think the KC should take a long hard look at who they approve to judge our breed as lets not forget you have to qualify to go to crufts and if a judge has withheld all placings in a class at crufts then that  means their are judges that the KC approve that are not judging to the standard the sooner the KC drop the missleading name alsatian from our breed registration the better that at least might go someway to avoid this embarassing escapade from happening agin
