Two Moons

by Two Moons on 05 December 2008 - 16:12

I'm not taking side's, but cross breed's (mutt's) can sometime's be great dog's.

Never sell one short just because it has no pedigree.

The wolf aspect is undesirable to me but the look is not.

The Shiloh Shepherd's look more like a big Collie to me.    I wouldn't want the coat.

Maybe a sweater.

I see it has another attempt to create something different, or something new.   Thats all Max did.

Cut em some slack.

Tina Barber,

Interesting that, once again, you come onto the thread, but you did not address the query regarding your claim to have titled a shiloh shepherd in schutzhund.

Would you be so kind as to answer the question?   I will cut and past it for you here:

Owner edit

Once again, Sue hits the nail on the head...repeatedly!!

Tina supposedly TITLED a Shiloh in schutzhund?

WHEN???  Please provide information from which we can verify this claim.

When, which organization,  name of dog, name of club hosting the trial, judge, date of trial, etc.   Even better, post the relevant pages from an actual scorebook.

I will not be the least bit disappointed to see no response to this query.  In fact, I don't expect one.  At most, I would expect some defensive " I have nothing to prove," or (more stupidly) "tell me yours."

Tina Barber,

Inasmuch as you apparently monitor this site for any reference to Shiloh's , you know that the claim has been made that you titled one in schutzhund.  Your silence can be (and is) taken as adoption of  and concurrence with that claim.  I"d like to see the proof, as I know a woman who tried for YEARS to title two Shilohs.  I think she may have achieved a B with one. But, not a title.

Thank you for your response.

Come on, Two Moons - I agree with your last 3 sentences  but 'mutts'? Really?

1) Can you trace the pedigree/ ancestry of a mutt back to the 1970's & beyond?

2)Every single pedigree dog is developed by cross-breeding so they are all mutts?

3) Show me any dog that doesnt have the the 'wolf aspect' .

OK - you dont like the look of them (collie???), you dont like their coats (and, yes, my wife has made some very nice sweaters from Shiloh fur). So what?  I'm not a fan of terriers but I dont waste my time listing what I think is wrong with them - I just dont buy one!

Jeez guys - if this type of c**p  was directed at people it would be bordering on racist - what are you scared of?

Like I said - I've been involved with GSD's for a very long time & love the breed but why knock those who are looking for something a little different?

Good post, Nick.

And to add to it:

Suppose you like a particular style of GSD, for instance, the dogs we had during the 60's.

Then, along comes Lance of Fran Jo, and everyone starts to breed to him, and produce dogs with steep fronts and overangulated rears.

What do you do?

You start breeding your own strain of GSD.

The years go by, and it is getting harder and harder to find compatible dogs to outcross to, as now, ALL the GSD's out there either are ridiculously overangulated and walk on their hocks, and the ones coming from Germany have banana backs, another trait you don't like.

What do you do? You can either continue to inbreed on your own lines, and start to get all sorts of genetic problems, or you can outcross...but to WHAT??

Tina chose to bring in new, non-GSD blood, break with the AKC, and go her own way.

Yes, she COULD have gone with working line dogs, but she considered their temperments to be too 'sharp' and their drives too much for the average family to handle. Your average dog buyer is NOT looking for a dog to do Schutzhund with, and working line dogs need a job.

I think Most here are interested in Facts...and facts only, not hyperbole or anecdotal BS

What Shilohs Titled in Schutzhund?   What titles? 1,2,3    Dates/Owners/Titles

Tina didnt like the working lines?   I dont understand this.  The GSD was the most popular Guide dog for the Blind,  up until what, the 1970s?   Before the Lab & Golden took that spot.

Many Sport dogs & Lines are well balanced, stable, not sharp, per se.  The GSD is a very popular animal here and abroad,  and a great family dog. I grew up with 3 of them (German Working lines)  until I  left for college.

Plenty of Pets for adoption, mutts, and non sporting breeds to choose from if one desires siply an oversized pet.  I just dont see the need to outcross our beloved breed,  and I dont particularly care for the marketing.  Her Advertising makes it appear that the true working Shepherds are  somehow deficient, which they are most definately, not.. and in actuality it is the Shilohs,  that are now deficient.

They are Not Working dogs.  Ill stand by that statement until corrected with a high in trial, or  Patrol working K9 Shiloh.

Nick the nut,

You misunderstand my use of the word mutt,  no matter.

And the sweater thing was my attempt at humor.  Garment's made from dog are tacky.

More humor.

Shiloh's?  I could take em or leave em.   I don't think I was bashing anyone.  I didn't even like lassy but I watched every show....:)

My favorite dog growing up was old Duke on the Beverly Hill Billy's.   Rin Tin Tin was a little to repeditive for me.

And Alf !!!  Theres a Mutt !!!  absolutely out of this world.  Didn't he have a thing for cat's?

We have too many silly arguement's over nonsense.    Let's argue over something we all can disagree on.

Innie's or outies?   Big or small ?(for the ladies), whos on first?

It's that time of the month, and the year when everything's strange.

Moon's.

Butt man or....Chest man????

That is THE question, 2 moons

(chest man myselff)

I can't decide!!

Ya can't have one without the other,  or is it, you can't eat just one ?     No that was potato chip's.

I'd say it's all about your point of view, from behind or face to face.

I still can't decide !!!

RAT'S !!!    I thought this would be easy.

Two Moons - think I'll stick around - Like your style.

OK I was sensitive about the 'mutt' thing but I did get your joke about the sweater. I was attempting humour myself -- actually my wife's talents lie in other directions........

My other remarks were directed at the other stuff on here - it's just getting a bit old.

Anyway - to the other great debate - definately innie - you gotta have somewhere to keep the fluff.

And large or small? my wife reckons only guys with small ones say size doesnt matter.

*buys shiloh. shaves shiloh. makes shiloh-hair sweater. puts sweater back on dog. = ultimate doggy humiliation!* *lol*

Shilos and Warlock/King/Gladiator dobermans are not the same thing, in that the Shilo is a conglomerate of several breeds, and the "warlock" doberman is just a dobe from lineage bred to be extra large.

The term: "warlock" most likely came from a dobe, CH Borong the Warlock, who was very well respected in his day. as such, his decendants were proudly known to have Warlock blood. Naturally somewhere along the line BYBs got ahold of the phrase, and started applying it to extra large dobes. To see the "King Gladiator" myth at it's worst, please visit: http://www.brittanysanimalkingdom.com/ , and link to her Dobe page. Some dogs are reputed to be 32" inches at the shoulder.

And then you have the "Roman" Rottweiler. Same thing. Purebred,  selectively bred for size. Ironically a lot of these "roman" rotts that I've seen have hard horrible structure: floppy hound-ears, lab faces, and the only thing that makes them look remotely rott is the black'n'tan and docked tail.
