DesertRangers

i have been around pits all my life and i don't need to read or research to understand them. nor do i need mr know it all explaining what they were bred for. they were bred to fight other dogs to the death. they love to fight and even in the midst of a fight are loving it until they are killed. they are very unpredictable and part of the terrior group.

they can be great pets and many are but if they ever do turn on a human the results are extreme damange. more power to anyone who wants one and keeps it under control but it is ir-resposible for anyone to suggest the pitbull to be a trustworthy working dog while they are actually very dangerous. you could be responsiblle for some newbie buying a pit, training in bitework and creating a monster. people just think a gsd is bad and mean.

You talked about the bite work of a mal. Ive have both a mal and GSD,I work my GSD on the road as a police dog. Yes the bite work of mal's are nice, but, on tracks you have to find the bad guy before you get the bite!!!!!!!! I would but my GSD up against any mal on the steet (not your show dog).

This is an age old post that comes up again and again. There are good and bad dogs within both breeds. There are lame gsd's and lame malinois and there are also awesome gsd's and malinois. It's all about the individual dog.

Here are some quotes from another board which I find true...

"The ability to find a good dog is hard enough........We tried the breed limiting thing here for awhile and had problems finding dogs.

Now, we'll take whatever we can get........GSD or Mal"

"I like GSDs,I like Malinois....a good dog is a good dog whatever the breed."

"I like GSDs,I like Malinois....a good dog is a good dog whatever the breed."   AMEN meanderer. The shift by many law enforcement to mals is the lower incedence of HD. The time and costs of training a K-9 are extensive. The mals make fine K-9 but so do GSDs. The HD factor into cost will sway LE to choose the MAL. Talk to K-9 officers. Mosst prefer GSDs. This is not a contest. Love both breeds. Involved in ringsport. The mals do incredibly well as do the dutch shepherd. Overall I will take a GSD to be in the house. I do not hunt but friends who chose Visla's, great dogs, need to dedicate hours a day exercising these dogs (talking about the good Hungarian imports). The american Visla like all AKC losing its type.

Personally I'm a GSD man, but saying that a good Mal is very pleasing to watch. I guess from what I have seen my only dislike would be the lack of consistancy in breeding Mals. To me it's like that saying from Forest Gump. "Life is like a box of chocolates - you just don't know what your gonna get!".
