Niesia

by Niesia on 16 February 2011 - 19:02

Guys,

Why is it always about "mine" is better than "yours"? My idea is “superior” and everybody should do it as I do it – if you don’t do it my way – I’ll make you do it… People who think that they’re idea IS better than all the other people’s idea - started wars… Some know more about it than others…
You like work line dog with high pray drives – have at it. But don’t tell me that I don’t want to have a real GSD that doesn’t have a high pry drive. What I want is what I want and you want what you want – neither of us is WRONG, we want what is GOOD for US.

I don’t tell you that your high drive dog is a bad dog – I don’t know him – he may be a couch potato for all I know. I don’t judge people by the country they come from, I judge them based on who they are. I apply the same to individual dogs. Telling that German GSD is better than American GSD is like telling that German is better than German Immigrant in America. Is one better than other or just different?
So don’t tell my dog is a bad dog because you don’t know her personally. There are bad examples of dogs in all lines –“ the proof is always on the end of the leash” (as somebody said in another subject) …

Regarding the Sch club – I am breeding my girl soon and I am hoping for my puppy from this litter. My girl proven herself as a mother of very smart and sound puppies with good drives, so I hope that there is MINE in there. I always wanted to do Sch training – just for fun. Few years back, when my girl was younger, the distance and “general atmosphere” around my Am line was very discouraging. So I was doing AKC obedience and agility with her until I had my boys. (It’s difficult to run with your dog when you are 8 months pregnant…) Now when my boys are bigger and don’t need me so much I would love to go back to the “dog” sport and this time go all the way through with it. I want my boys to get a “bug” and do it to in the future. I am looking for the club in Seattle area that would welcome a newbie and help her with training of the pup that doesn’t necessary has “insane” drive. Competition is what gives as adrenaline – but sport should be exactly what it is – sport.

My husband is a bird hunter, so he always checks our dogs to see if they can be gun dogs... He always believed in Springer Spaniels as best bird dogs, but he also realized that a GSD is not a bad bird dog either. Sure there are better breeds to do it, but not a breed that can do it ALL… Isn’t it why we all love GSDs and are proud to own one?

And to respond to a Show subject –
Yes - it is a beauty pageant - it’s a dog show for heaven’s sake not a sport competition and again I will say that in this show the dogs are INVITED. So whoever invited those dogs, thinks they are the best representation of the breed – as always it is pure subjective opinion. They think those dogs are BETTER than others... Why do you think they didn't invite AKC Grand Victors/ Victrix from previous years? Maybe then the SHOW would show Am GSD a little better...

Niesia, I don't go out and buy a Ferarri, take the engine out and replace it with a Ford Pinto engine because I like the looks, but I don't want what makes a Ferarri a Ferarri.

Niesia, I asked you earlier where you live. I'm sure many on here would love to invite you out to their club to back up your statement. Hell, I'd love it if you lived near me. I'd like to see your dog do well and have a good time.

Niesia -- I sent you a PM

------------------

Don -- To each his own.  Like I said earlier, each person chooses for themselves.   Just because you like GSD's that do Sports, doesn't mean everyone else should.   That is really silly -- like trying to control what others SHOULD want and do.   Maybe your car is junk or maybe your house is a dump in some people's eyes -- but you selected that Car and you selected that House.    But the selection of a GSD (or any Breed) for whatever reason is even more personal to an individual.   Who are you to make "fun" of someone's choice of Dog, make disparaging remarks about the Dog, and the purpose for obtaining the Dog?

I asked you previously what work does your dog perform.   You did say that you have friends whose dogs perform Schutzhund and also perform work on their farms guarding livestock.    That is great for your friends -- but what about your dog(s)?

AM I RIGHT IN ASSUMING THAT JIMMY MOSES ONLY HANDLES AMERICAN S/L? JUST CURIOUS.

He recently put an AKC championship on 2xVA-1 Liedo.

Maggs, I didn't make fun of anyone's dog. I just can't stand venues like this that promote hollow dogs that do not adhere to the whole standard. Did I single out anyone? Do you feel that your dog fits into my statements? I'm sorry if you do. What do I do with my dog? SchH. I only have a young pup at the moment, but I train with two different groups. I get invited to a few others, but I rarely go because I am busy. Why do you ask? Because I'm against the AKC style show? Wow! Even if I did nothing with my dog, I would still be against anything that ruins breed standards.

niesia....this subject crops up from time to time on this board and others, some people have passion for the type of dog they choose to select.i don't feel "off-topic" to the original post about the dog show...it all ties in together.the people that select, breed, condition and show dogs for the AKC conformation ring are probably as passionate and concerned about their breedings and offspring as anyone else..and true...each dog should be judged on his/her own merits.it' may not be my place say "what is the original purpose, intent, direction of the GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG"...i shouldn't even have to answer that...i don't see it as a "mine is better than yours" discussion at all...dog sport and conformation events are open to anyone with a puerbred dog..mixed breeds also...i don't know your dogs, don't have a clue about their abilities,or lack there of.but any reasonable person can look at the TRACK RECORD! a blind man could see the major difference in what's suitable for work and what's suitable for pet status...look around, take the blinders off...if you can't see the obvious downturn which resulted it the quote/unquote"american line gsd....there are breeders that are truly dedicated to the "american line"and they breed to that standard,close-minded to anything else...i've seen so many poor quaility dogs...linebred up the wazoo on LANCE FRAN-JO/MANNIX/COBERTS TROLLSTEIGEN...each example i've seen were very poor quaility as pups and looked worse at 1 yr. old.small heads, pointy muzzels, terrible ears, bodies out of perportion, poor feet, weak pasterns, loose hooks..by contrast,i've seen some stunning working dogs, correct conformation and temprement to go with it..but i've seen some bad examples also..so it goes both ways,in my opinion, what's known now as the traditional"AMERICAN BLOODLINE" doesn't equal to or resemble anything close to what a true GSD should be about...this is not a personal attack, only my opinion...some will agree, some will disagree...the "working dog" may not be the dog for everyone, but i think it's closer to the original idea...good luck in your training and breeding.

Just a clarification -

Westminster is not an invite only show.  The top 5 dogs are invited (and it is not a person who selects who the "top" dogs are - it is based on rankings of how many dogs of their breed they have beaten in the following year).  After that it is open entry for any dog that has finished its championship until the total entry number of 2500 or so is reached.

Back to your annually scheduled debate on Westminster ;-)

Don -- I really don't see any "promoting" of American Lines ....just a discussion about the Westminister Dog Show.   There are also Posters on this Board who own Am Lines.  Is that OK with you ?

My dog is Top-notch in my eyes.   Even though he has "high-drive," he is a Pet/Companion.   PLUS, he is a gorgeous German Show Line !!

"Hollow Dog"   "Doberman with 10" floppy ears"   -- WTH is that ??
