Quit making sense, Christine.

Stacking crates is not the issue.  Stacking crates is just efficient.  The issue is the other conditions of the kennel, and that animals have been taken/surrendered when they were not owned by Dawn

by beetree on 15 February 2014 - 12:02

Oh, I think you would rather think that "stacking crates is just efficient". Really? In a residential home? I would love to see some proof of this type of efficency, myself.

Trying to round up the DNA donors will be a challenge, I give you that.

The Dentist i am now using is great! He was recommended to me by a friend after I moved to a new area. He has diplomas on his walls from schools I have heard of, and heard good things. His office is clean, his staff proficient. He is on time and polite. Everything he does, tells me to bring my teeth back to him. I use similar critera before I take my dog, to a kennel for training, breeding, or extended stays. Dawn is only one of the many scammers who talks like a duck. Her business pratices are an insult to every GSD person who does the real work and is honest. Her maintaince of the dogs is a crime.

Puppymills stack crates. Legitimate breeders don't, unless it's a temporary thing, e.g., while travelling to a show.

by zdog on 15 February 2014 - 15:02

Apparently they had a reporter at the scene while the raid was conducted.  Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any video or pictures of dogs living in crates stacked on each other.  I have crates stacked in my garage.  Have never put a dog in them like that, but they are stored along a wall like that.  The house looked horrible, nobody lived there, but it did look bad.  The dogs didn't however, not that I could tell.

What does stacking a crate have to do with anything? The filth and conditions are the issue with Dawn's "care," not whether the crates take up square footage on the ground or against the wall, imo. I have my Pit Bull's crate on top of Capri's crate. My GSDs sleep in 700s if they sleep in a crate, and Simon's crate fits nicely on top of it and takes up a whole lot less of my precious utility/mudroom space. <shrug> I fail to see how much better I would be if I put it on the floor next to her crate instead of on top of it.  If you're stacking so you can hoard crazy numbers...yeah...that's a problem. But the stacking isn't the problem...the hoarding is the problem. But this is coming from someone who moved her kitchen table to put a full-fledged kennel in the kitchen for puppies................LOL.

39 is insane for a person without a whole staff. How she even thought she could pull that off is beyond me. I feel for the rightful owners who were deceived and have now had their dogs stolen from them, but I admit I fall short of full-blown sympathy for emotional suffering of someone sending their dog to a foreign country on a "lease" as if they're a vehicle. I'd ship semen, not the dog. JMO and no, it doesn't have much to do with the legality of the case, as the SPCA is still in the wrong where the real owners are concerned, but we've seen enough cases like this that I personally would be VERY hesitant to send my dog to someone to "borrow" for breeding purposes. It's scary enough to think about sending them away to finish a title or something.

Beetree, no one said you couldn't handle 3. I merely pointed out that 3 would change your whole dynamic from the happy pair you have right now. Adding 1 to 2 ALWAYS changes the dynamic- that statement had nothing to do with you or your handling abilities whatsoever.

by beetree on 15 February 2014 - 19:02

Jenni, I absolutely understand how going from 2 to 3 dogs would change the dynamic. And knowing that, my own situation makes it just a fact, that at this point in time, considering all aspects, it would not make sense to add another dog to our home. No matter how enamored I might become with someone's adorable puppy. Wink Smile I mostly wanted to make a point in discernment. I am pretty much of your thinking on this whole matter of 39 dogs, seized. However, I did not want to be the one to bring up the "H" word, so I am glad you did!

The hoarding is the problem, and interestingly enough, there was a different Dawn who did just that, not too far from me, and not too long ago. She was stopped by the authorities because of it. She also had justified her thinking, that GSD's stacked up in threes, in a residential home was not a concern. She was wrong.

I would still love to see the proof of how someone "efficiently" handles the care of GSD's stacked three high, as a permanent living situation. Without that, I doubt I will be able to change my mind. I imagine one doesn't begin to even think about stacking GSD's until a certain number is reached. For those who stack their GSD's, I would be curious to know what number was the one that made this idea, suddenly the best idea.

Jenni, to me, stacking crates implies puppymill conditions where the pups on top are pooping on the ones below. Totally different situation from the one you describe!

My apologies for not being clearer.

How can you stack crates that high and let dogs out enough? Are you lifting them up and down several times per day?? A woman? Lifting a full grown GSD down the height of 3 crates?  Me thinks not. A GSD in a crate 3x high is likely not getting much exercise...disgusting. Simon, OTOH, has zero trouble hopping the 26" or so into his crate. and he sleeps on a big fluffy pillow bed...not an open grate so the shit can fall. <gag>

SS, I understood you fine- I was just elaborating that the stacking itself isn't the issue, rather, just a symptom of the issue. You can have one or more symptoms without the disease...
