Kalibeck

by Kalibeck on 29 February 2008 - 15:02

This morning Kali is not eating. She took a cup of yoghurt, as long as I was holding it, but I tried tempting her with cottage cheese mixed with a little puppy chow, --she was not impressed. She keeps sitting in front of me, staring at me. Her temp this AM was 99.6 a little bit down from her usual 100.2-6. When we went out to potty, she tried to dive under the front porch, and as I wouldn't let her, she just stood and stared at the area, then turned to look at me, like "You idiot, I need to get to my spot!" Then she forgave me & plodded into the house, & went & laid down in her nursery.

So, any opinions....is this it? I'm supposed to go to work tonight, but then I'm off the weekend, & I have someone to switch schedules with me next week, or whenever she has them. Think I should call off work tonight? Per the vet, she would be at 53 days, per MY calculations, she is at 57 days, I've been picking a # inbetween just to simplify things....but......??? Carl would be here with her if I go in, with emergency numbers at the ready... And there's another snow storm coming, a low pressure system...jackie harris

if this is her time, take a deep breath and good luck to you all. she looked pretty and content in her "taj mahal". if you have to drive in the snow storm, be careful. i saw some tv footage the other night for somewhere in the midwest (i think) and i have to admit, i'm glad i live in southern california! let us all know how its going.

MMM, she could very well go tonight or tomorrow, but refresh my memory.  Is that enough of a temp drop to say she's going to go in the next 24 hours?

No, no puppies yet..Moms as big as a cruise ship, flops out in the whelping box and stretches out; it's really cool, you can see the pups moving in her belly. She gave me a scare last night, it took me until 2 am to get home from work in the snow storm...first thing I do is check on her, she seemed perky, so I went to bed. But just as I was falling asleep, I could hear her start thrashing around, then she started whining, so I took her out, she was straining with no production. Brought her back in, and she just flopped back out & went to sleep, snoring away! I however, sat up at the side of the whelping box, with a little light on, until 4:55am thinking that if she was straining, she might be in labor; & since her temp had been down. This AM, perky, temp 100.4, eating like crazy again!!!! Not me tho'. I'm beat! My only accomplishment today was to get a better scale. So, how much should healthy puppies weigh? I'm thinking somewhere around a pound? Kalie is 68#,(was, I should say), Wolf is 89#....does that influence the weight of the pups? Yes, Kalie's doing well, I'm already, well, tired!!!! jackie harris

The above link tracks GSD pup's weights from birth to 1 year of age. Should be very helpful for the coming days!

Best of luck to you and Kalie!

LOL bitches don't always read those whelping statistics, Jackie. I had one that ate the entire time she was whelping - would have a pup, clean it up and eat a mouthful of kibble, have another............ She had 2 litters that way - 9 and 11, all live births and healthy as little ponies.  Her temp never dropped below 100 degrees either.

You'll know it's time when you see the first puppy .

Well THAT'S reassuring!! But seriously, folks, today is day 60, got my kit together.....have a couple of days off work.....that in itself should be enough to let me know it won't happen now....LOL! Kali is slightly lopsided at this point, she looks so funny, I can't imagine she could get any bigger....and she never seems to be able to find a comfortable position,(I remember that stage!), poor girl. jackie harris

Todays picture, I was trying to get a picture of how shiney she is, but there was too much contrast for my little camera phone to handle....jh
