Redsable,
I am fairly certain your dog is a redsable, so your safe. IMO a black sable has no light color hairs at the withers and back. My male actually has solid black hairs at his withers and along his backbone. Not split colored hairs like a normal sable. I would think one parent would also be a solid black. This is just my opinion, but I would love to hear what others think.
I see how people are now advertising pups and dogs as black sables, because it is the in thing right now. I clearly see they are not true black sables.
You can see his back is solid, he does have split colored sable hairs on his sides and neck.

here are some pictures of the above male at birth, 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 16 weeks. At birth he was black with a few mahogany hairs on his feet and right behind his ears. This whole litter was either black sable or very dark sables..
Hope this helps..

I think it's important to remember that "black sable" or "red sable" or "grey sable" are really just descriptive terms. The dogs are all sable patterned. What we're describing with those terms is the intensity of the pigment. You're not going to see these terms on the registration papers.
Black sables are (almost) always going to be sable with a black recessive. .[Note: I've seen some very darkly pigmented sables without the black toes--such as Alk v Osterburg Quell--it's hard to know what to call them, black sable? red sable? Usually these are sables with the bicolor recessive (and the heavy pigment modifier?) instead of the black recessive.]
But just because a sable has a black recessive doesn't mean he is a black sable.
In calling a dog one color or another, I usually go buy the overall impression.
A red sable looks like a red dog--with more or less black pigmentation.
A black sable will give the impression of a very dark dog, almost a black dog, down to the toes
A grey sable gives the overall impression of being a grey dog.

Pearliewog: why do you consider that dog sable at all? Does he have the banded hairs? Based on your picture, he appears to be a black and red long-coat.
Is this puppy a sable or bi-color? Mom is Mischa above and Dad is a black/red saddle
