Powerhouse-  Well then that makes a little more sense as to why the dog is the way he is AND if he was not properly socialized or environmentally prepared for a "pet home" then it makes all the more sense.  This is probably not a dog a "newbie" should have been matched with in the first place....am I right on that thought?

There's nothing wrong with having a harder DDR dog; I myself like those dogs very much BUT I also know that I am not near the level of where I'd need to be to handle a dog like that.  Maybe someday...and when the kids are grown but for now the dog I have is perfect for me and my family.  He was my first GSD, I got lucky that he was a good match and now I'd never own another breed again.  They're the perfect dog IF you get the right one for you.  The breeder acted very irresponsibly in this case and I just wonder if this is their common practice??

Agar,

Again, I think that this dog is a good Schutzhund candidate!  I have had the same type of dog but more so agressive!  It is not a problem at my house because we have one showline that is the family pet...he is the only dog that my non-dog liking husband and kids actually like and wish to interact with!  The rest are ALL mine, ALL one person dogs!

Just because he has a pedigree full of DDR dogs doesnt make him a candidate for anything/.   THe behaviour described is a perfect example of how people think just because he has a pedigree.  he is trainable or genetically sound.....that he is not  or he wouldnt be in this shape...when two former owners , one of which was his breeder , let him slip thru the cracks like this.....woooh Nelly,,,,,

Example:   Two months ago , young lady brought me a female to look at  ..She was all excited   ..She had a pedigree with a lot of 2nd generation Schutz. dogs and the breeder sucked into buying this 2 1/2 yr old female...and told this nieve lady that she had done some schutz with her,,,,what I ask  ,,,  obedience.......reallly now....dog was not looking at me , could have cared less I was standing there....who is this lady?Breeder?  Never heard of her..which I dont know everyone....ok   She just did her ofa before coming over....registered her in her name,,,and oh  shes in heat.....Ive heard of your male, Dieter.....Oh no,,,I dont stud him out....I dicussed some traits of avoidance I noticed.and she did not carry herself well.....I noticed floppy , or loose" ears///// so in a day or two , we discussed more things she was doing....to make a long story short   ,    she began growling at kids....as this was month three with this family....I warned her.....why did this breeder sell a 21/2 yr old??? come to find out , this was the only pup in litter whose ears stood and the others had " ear folds" and I dont even know what that is....but she limited all of those pups papers.....I told her.....find a home for this dog.....growling at three young kids is not acceptible...She wanted me to take her and correct her.....I dont do that.......she sold the female to a retired , single , truck driver who wanted a companion to ride all over the Us with him.....good placement for dog.....never should have been registerd with open reg and this dog was poorly  constructed...To look at her pedigree, you would have thought she was better....and   maybe the pedigree wasnt even hers.......??????

I guess I'm climbing out of the bridge again, Agar. (And, I really don't like hijaking this thread.)

"A boil on my ass would annoy me more than your outrageous pot shots."

R.........I........G.......H.........T        Totally plausible.......after all, boils can be so painful.......b u t,....the intense animosity of your post somehow belies your statement, portraying a rather noticeable contradiction. It might even be amusing to banter somewhat.....but.....the thread is really about the dog and Shandra's dilema........not bruised egos.  Uh.....wasn't entirely truthful there.  Honestly, Agar---I'm signing off now because---pure and simple----I just can't be bothered with you. It's late, and I was actually turning off the computer when I saw your name listed up and down the 'last post' column........but I checked in here first.......and low and behold.....here we are. Tomorrow, I'll read ALL those probable Dr. Jekyl posts. (LOL--all the time)

Where do some of you guys get that this dog is "the Leader"?  Maybe I am ignorant, but to me a dominant dog doesn't avoid her son and hide in a corner.  I don't think that avoidance is in a dominant dog's capability, but then again, the person that claims this, is also telling Shandra to stick it out.  The dog has been to 4 homes.  There is a reason for that.  Not because the dog is that horrible, but because the other two people that placed him before Shandra, were not selective in the home provided.  The dog has not been placed with the right person.  I wouldn't teach a kid that has never driven, in a 18 wheel semi.

Shandra, I'm no breeder but if I did I would use something like this for my pups:

Oh my GOd   now you tell us    been to    4 homes ,,,,,that is even more drastic.....approx....still a big question surrounding this dog.....BTW  to engage in the sort of schutzhund,  a dog of this age, would not be let around members or others, until extensive examination. the dog has to have a clear head, a positive expression upon approach by the trainer, able to have leash handed first off to the trainer, and taken by  him or her to an appropriate part of field.. ,show no signs of aggressive behaviour toward anyone or any pet...any hesitation to not be handled by the trainer at that time would be an automatic  take this dog home...... and find another kind of sport....Schutzhund is not a training school...it is a sport   to train in....and a dog has to have eagerness, confidence, intelligence, and prey and ball drive, and food drive helps....any indifference to people. kids, pets , a ball, a stick or a sack ,umbrella ,truck ,tree , water hose, or even a truck horn or anything else , find another avenue....this dog only has one avenue of redemption....

I have not heard one point to show me that this dog is any where a candidate for anything , but a
