Yak was in excellent form on friday for the mute probe. I rated him excellent. Oliver was horrible and a disgrace on Friday. Alot of people were talking. Gonzalas & Oliver were listed in Ring 1 for gaiting so they must have pulled them for other reasons.

by Martin on 31 August 2004 - 10:08

Ring 1 is very big... and the end of it is not enough for Youth sieger and a highly promoted dog ;)

by M.Carter on 31 August 2004 - 12:08

Well Martin, that is just to bad for him now isn't it :D From what I saw, he was way over-rated and will probably get very few breedings now. 3 of the 5 helpers for the males should have been pulled off the field because they were so bad. One of them is the head trial judges son...imagine that. Pit du Clos du Schauenberg was hit hard over the spine, his rear legs buckled and he was noticably limping on the long bite where he refused to engage. Horrible helper work, bad sleeve presentation, bite-bar sticking straight out or up in the air so dogs had to bite the underside of the sleeve, dogs run over, Sticks being waived in front of the sleeve as dogs were coming in to bite, dogs driven in 4 different directions, no consistancy - which is the judge's fault for not correcting the mess. Some dogs were obviously given a pass where others were overly tested in an attempt to run as many as possible. A show is not the place to test someone's training program or handling skills, this is not what the mute proba was intended to be used for. I'd much rather see dogs like Quenn Monchberg who has fire or a dog like Kinto who bit the helper where he deserved it...right in the ass anyday over dogs like Karat's Yasko who was trained completly in Obedience, the dog would easily score 100 pts in C every time but do we want this in our breed? Many sport and now breed dogs are being trained this way for points... I'd rather take a dog like Arthos Friesenblick who dragged his handler who fell on her belly onto the field any day and lacked control but the dog had fire and spirit which makes a Shepherd dog special.

M.Carter, it looks like you have been threre, have you? I think it is great that you voice your opinion on this subject, seeing as this is really not the way to do things. There are dogs that are promoted and others have to "fail", because of politics. I am glad to read what you said about "Arthos vom Friesenblick", seeing as I know the breeder for many years now, had a bitch, "Fanto"-daughter from him ("Ute vom Friesenblick") and I have three dogs here on this website, one a son and two others daughters of "Ute", and all of them bite really well! One, "Orasis de El Rancho Hanseatic" was Auslese in Spain and Champion of Spain in 2002, but she was stolen from me, being our family dog :-( I recovered her brother "Odax de El Rancho Hanseatic" (have a look at his picture, please) when he had been maltreated by a German trainer in Germany, because he didn't want a beautiful dog to "bite". But I got him back, at the age of 6 he got the a1 ("a" normal) and I am preparing him for a work exam, he is already 7 1/2 years old, but he bites extremely well, has a great spirit and I will let the breeder of his mother and of "Arthos", whom you saw, will let him know what you said here, he would be very happy, seeing as he does not speak English. I am German, by the way, but I live in Spain. Thanks you for expressing your opinion, I do think this word has to go around, something has to be done about all those things that just do not work in pro of the German Shepherd Dog!! Best regards to all!

Would someone please explain a "mute probe"? Many thanks for this interesting thread...

Hi ginabean, The correct qord is: Mutprobe, which is German obviously. It is a combination of two German words: Mut = courage Probe = exam or test So it is the "Courage Test" the dogs undergo on the Siegerschaus in most member countries of the WUSV. It has nothing to do with "mute", the dog has to bark ;-) If I can help you in any other way, please let me know and I will comply. Although I have to add, that I am really not too sure about what they call the "courage test" in English officially. I am German and live in Spain ;-) Kind regards!

So what happened to Yak? Internet gossip is Yak v Frankengold got hit by a car going through the spectators. Surely someone can verify or debunk the rumour...

One dogs foot was run over on the way to the prodegny group. Not sure which dog it was. Not a pretty scene. The organization really shouldn't have let cars around the comotion during the group assemblies and entrance to the ring.

awt, The progeny groups were set up around the stadium and some VIP cars were allowed to pass around the stadium to go to to the VIP parking spots. I was standing by the Ursus progeny group when the accident happened. In the meantime, the path around the stadium was packed with dogs and people. Suddenly, I heard an awful scream. The Yak progeny group was perhaps 2 places before the Ursus group. One could not tell if the scream was human or animal. But an accident had unmistakenly occurred. I later heard that Yak had been hit by one of the passing vehicles. When I left the show, no one seemed to know exactly how serious the Yak's injuries were. An awful accident that overshadowed the show. I sincerely hope that Yak is OK and on the mend. Sunshine

I too was standing at the Ursus progeny group when a friend of mine, told me that Yak had been hit by a car driving through the people. I beleive he had to be taken immediately to the vets at the stadium but heard nothing of what has happened since. I sincerely hope he is recovering with his owners.
