Salisbury Police Looking for Missing K-9
Police in Salisbury Township, Lehigh County are asking for your help. Officers are looking for a dog from their K-9 unit.
He ran off tonight around 6:30. The dog responds to the name Zeus. He's a 6-year-old German Shepherd. f you've seen him you're asked to call the Lehigh County Communications Center at 610-437-5252.
Okay-found it in the WFMZ archives- this was the story I was thinking of- he looks black & tan in the picture I saw, and I don't see any followup to state whether they found him or not...but there it is.....jh
Great Molly! I KNEW you would make good progress with the dog. You're so calm and un-fluffable, where as we'd be pulling me of the ceiling every time he surprised me, me not paying attention walking by with my head in the clouds. LOL
Keep up the good work!

oops- found a follow up story on Zeus, at least it was a good one...jh
... .Salisbury Police K-9 Found
There's a happy ending in the story of a lost police dog. Officials from the Salisbury Police Department told us the dog from their K-9 unit which ran off Friday has been found.
They say Zeus is back home with his owner and is doing just fine. Zeus was found on Land's Road- not too far from his home- and not even a mile from police headquarters.
It's great to know who the gsd world can count on in a crunch.
Shelley, Molly -- way to go. I know where my next pup is coming from.
I have done GSD rescue for many years, though I'm not "officially" a rescue organization. I believe strongly that to be a breeder, and a lover of a breed, you must make yourself available to help the breed in any way you can. I breed only proven (titled, hip rated, tested) dogs and sell with limited registration only. I take in rescues that obviously came from other breeders who can't or won't take the dog back, or who do not maintain communication with their puppy buyers. MANY nice dogs have come through here - in fact on any given day you may find 1-3 GSDs (and other breeds) here, waiting for the right home to come along (not my own dogs, talking about the rescues I take in). Right now I have Maximus, and a Pitbull. I've taken dogs from people's backyards, tied to trees their entire lives - convincing the owners the dog would be much happier somewhere else. I've housed dogs from other rescues that are en route and needed a place to stay while transportation was being worked out (Echo white GSD rescue is one I volunteer my kennel for). I also routinely get in "problem dogs" from the local rescue society - they only use foster homes and I get the ones that don't fit into foster situations as well (dog aggressive, cat aggressive, not good with kids etc). I try to help rehab them, or just keep them until someone can be found to take them and move them farther toward the goal of a permanent home. I have taken dogs with poor temperaments, though I do try to avoid them if I can - tried to rehab them, tried to find appropriate homes for them, but when I couldn't I euthanized them. I do what is best for the dogs, and for the breed. I try my best. And I know many other GSD breeders and fanciers such as myself try to help when they can, as well - such as Shelley who couldn't take this dog herself, but spent many hours driving and talking on her cell, trying to work out a way to save Maximus. The breed needs people that are willing to step forward when they can, to help when they can. I'm fortunate to have a boarding kennel, so I can make room when necessary to at least keep a dog safe and warm and fed until he can be moved on to a better place.
molly

Well said Molly. I can hardly wait till I have some facilities myself to take in rescued dogs. I, as you, feel this is our responsibility to the breed and to dogs in general. I just wish there were more like-minded people like us.

The dirt-bag prior owner tells us "max" aka "Blackie" just turned 5 yrs. old.
On the other hand, he insists the dog has some Collie in him. Oh the wonder of drugs...
Wat do you think? LOL
SS
Yup, sure looks like a Collie x GSD cross to me. They just don't make Collies like they used to.... Must explain the lit-up eyes in the pix, right?
Bwah ha ha ha ha ha!
