they all go back to optonline though....as does the initial sign in IP and 2 computers cannot have the exact same IP number at the exact same time Chuck.   And good old frenzi seems to be shared by 3 people now.

 VBK9,

An IP address is a unique number assigned to each computer on the internet. There is a lot to know about an IP address, but in this case, the information gives all of us information that someone posting a message is sending a message from a particular computer.  With the right software and a knowledge of IP addresses, one can know, for example, the following:

Country Demographics
Region/State Company Name
City Proxies
US DMA/MSA NAICS Codes
Zip Code Time Zone
Area Code Longitude/Latitude
Domain Name Connection Speed
ISP Language

IP addresses here just make it easier to see if messages are coming under alias being used by the same person. However, if one has a second computer, that computer will have a different IP, but will still provide the data above. The system is running out of unique number combinations, so another system has been developed and will end up being used. As well, even an IP address can be circumvented, so it is not foolproof.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Oli for the great pedigree resources available.  I don't know what the answer is here but if it is paying a service to keep the people off here who mean nothing but trouble then sign me up.  I have learned so much here and as I have said before I have seen a lot of people leave that were a credit not only to this board but to the breed in general.  I would also like to see them come back.

Hello Oli,

First and up front I do not care for Googles policy's in China, or they're collecting of information from us all.  I know about money and how the world works so I understand the need for they're involvement.   I understand your problem with search engine and text.   I dont know if you'd rather come up with software or use human moderators to control problems on site.

I do know that just like chatrooms you can ban IP address's and contact Internet providers about subscribers who cause harm.  They are very good about dealing with these matters.

I think you have done a great job and this is a very promising website.  I'm sure its growing by leaps and bounds, congratulations.

As far as trolls lurkers and flamers, users do not have to feed them to start with and just like the chatrooms they could be knocked off quickly by an active moderator.  Same way with messages and post's.  Only you would know what would be more cost effective or convenient.  I'm not that bothered by the BS but I can see that it gets personal for others.   Govern with fair rules and penalties for breaking them equally for all.  Reading the rules and excepting the terms at time of registration.

In closing I want you to know I really appreciate this site and applaud your hard work and effort.  I see by your posts your a fair and honest person who cares about all of us who use your website every day.

Sincerly,

Brent.
