Please folks, can't take it anymore.... the word S E P A R A T E is spelled thus. You can remember it simply by saying, THERE is  A RAT in Separate! Which is dfferenent from D E S P E R A T E.

Please if you can't learn anything new, at least learn how to spell S E P A  R A T E.

Hoping to teach old dogs new tricks.

Never fails, I just checked, and I  know I made a typo , still please learn to spell SEPARATE. Since this breed is headed that way.  JMHO

Ha Ha.  It is "different" not " dfferenent, but I get the point.

My pet spelling peeves c/w this site are:

It is "son", not sun, suhn, sohn, etc.

It is "daughter", not doughter, dotter, doter, etc.

It is "for sale", not "for sell", etc.

Yes, I am aware this is an international site, but I have checked and many of the ads using these spellings are listed to U.S. locations.  I do give allowance to those who do not have english as a first language, so don't jump on me.

Spelling is a pet peeve of mine. I have several young adults who work for me at the shelter, who text message constantly. The "text" style carries over into the notes they make in client and animal files. I have learned to let it go. HOWEVER, the one that gets me, the most....is people using "of" instead of "have". Example: "I must of done something wrong." Instead of "I must have done something wrong." or "I must've done something wrong." Then of course there is always the misuse of there, their, and they're, not to mention your and you're.

Deb, as an aside, I found the whole IP Address situation quite humorous. I wasn't too concerned over it in regard to people thinking I was an "alter ego" of some of the other members of this forum. There are enough people who frequent here who know me and my dogs in real life, that it was pretty outrageous for anyone to think I am anyone but myself. Being that I am already a pretty straight forward, speak my mind kind of person, anyway...the thought that I might use other sign in names to speak my mind is laughable. Especially, where it has been noted on several threads that I often try to be the voice of reason, and I try hard to refrain from publically bashing anyone, their program or their dogs.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program. I am interested in the pet peeves of others. Pet peeves tell a LOT about a person.

I understand pet peeves all too well, and agree that correct spelling is one (1) of mine. I occassionally make a typo, and am really bothered by it after I see it in print and cannot change it. I guess I should get over it, but that I just can't do.  I agree that the mechanics and shortcuts used for text messaging really irk me as well . Combine that with the illiterate hip hop  "grammar" spoken by much of the younger North American generation and I feel that we will continue our slide down the path of adult illiteracy and bad manners.

I don't consider myself snotty but still I allow no excuses for those whose primary language is English to continually make serious grammatical errors and I guess that major peeve of mine resulted from my interactions with people here during my middle youth. I cannot sum how many times I heard the comments "You know boy, you talk funny" or "You don't talk no good English boy." Wow, I guess it is a wonder that I can nowadays complete a three-word sentence!

My English language vocabulary and spelling skills were virtually nonexistent when I arrived in the U.S.A. and perhaps the "ridicule" I received forced me to make continual improvements to my manner of communication. But that has also given me a strong prejudice towards those with poor grammar skills and I still feel strongly that if a German farmboy can learn the American English language then anyone can do so.

my pet peeve is, people always asking, oh, is that mother and daughter? i have a 5 year old male and an 11 month old female. today someone asked, are those boys or girls, and when i answered boy and girl, the woman said, the puppy is a boy right? i said no, the puppy is a girl. or alot of people insist on calling my puppy a boy after i have been talking to them for 5 minutes, constantly saying, she, and her. the male also keeps getting called a she. i wonder if people have brains, sometimes.

While we are on it, it's definitely, not definately.

If I'm unsure of my spelling I'll sometimes put (sp?) after it.  :)

There are also 3 - two, to, and too.   The number TWO, I'm going TO work, and I like him TOO

3 - there, their, and they're,  THERE is a whole in my sock, THEIR car is broken, and THEY'RE going home.

Wow, those were pretty corny!

Though I agree that the whole IM thing has made some of my grammar/spelling poor.

I find that I don't want to use caps anymore, etc. etc.  Good thing I haven't started texting!

My spelling comes and goes, sometimes it's not enough light and sometimes it's my eye sight.  And then there are those days when I'm just fuzzy in my mind.   The years are not kind to me as I grow older. I have myself to blame for that.

My pet peeve tho is people, humans in general.  Not an individual but the species.  It would take pages and pages to explain this but I think any of you if you really look at the world and all that goes on every day you can understand where I'm coming from.  I just think mankind could do alot better.

My short list is fools idiots flamers bullies criminals polititions lawyers polluters hatemongers and people who cant spell!

JMO.......:)
