Do right- you cannot judge, by one person's side of the story, on the freaking internet, whether a dog should be put down. Even when I consult people over the phone I will NOT make a judgement regarding the dog unless I see it, and see it engage in said behaviors. To do anything else would be grossly irresponsible.

Last summer, a lady told me about a time she and her daughter were at a dog park, and her teenage daughter asked to pet a leashed malinois. The owner said sure, and the mal put 14 stitches in that young lady's face. And this was at a DOG PARK.  I would say the dog's owner was a hell of a lot more untrustworthy than the dog itself.

Sil, how is your mother?

She is worried about infection, the one gash is swollen, and real blood red, it's been two days.. so that is probably normal,  it looks like it is trying to heal.. everything is showing up now, there are 3 other punctures, not nearly as bad as the one.... all and all, she feels blessed...they told her if she suspected infection, to go back to the ER.

Good thing she did go to the hospital and got the antibiotics, the handler is a nurse.. she tried to convince her to stay and just let her clean it out because she didn't need to go to the hospital.

I do believe that Do Right stated:

"I did not say that THIS dog in question needs to be put down.  I would never say that without meeting with the dog, given the limited information we have been provided."

I have put down more than one dog that came into rescue after they had bitten but it was only after I had proof they were biters....and I was the one getting bit.  There is absolutely no good reason to place dogs like that with the general public.  There were a couple of them that I just fell in love with but I couldn't keep them with people coming and going all the time.   One of them got loose and bit our nephew who was riding a bike down the driveway.  Prey drive or meanness?   Didn't matter, he bit someone and that was that.

Now on the other hand, I've also covered for dogs when I had to go to the hospital.  I told them I broke up a dogfight between my own dogs.   One was because of my own stupidity.  I reached down to grab the collar of a dog that wasn't mine because he was barking at some horses and I got bit.  My brain was telling my hand it was a bad idea on the way down but the hand won...or lost rather.

I would hate to have the job of animal control.  I wouldn't want to decide the fate of a dog without seeing a video of the incident.

My infatuation with you?  You flatter yourself and as usual are delusional.  By the way I have a dog I would LOVE for you to try to catch with your silly six magic sweatshirts.  You are nothing but a liar and a joke.

This is Silhouette's Mom. I may be disabled due to a back injury, but I can not quailfy for a senor citizen discount for quite a few more years yet.  Had I been told by the dog's owner that he couldn't handle the dog,  I would have NEVER approached in any manner. I have been around German Shephards for 15 years. My main concern is not for myself, the damage has been done. My concern is for a small child or someone else's "eldery" mum. I feel that the owners at this point are saying to themselves, we will just never take him out again. We all know there is always a chance this dog can get lose, and now I have first hand exepericence how quickly something can go wrong.  I am a SOLID animal lover.

In no way could I EVER EVER  put any blame on my daughter for what happened to me. You go to a dog trainer with 10 years experience, and you expect a high level of knowledge, or even a half way amount of common sense. They well knew that I had spine surgery in Febuary. I find it  ludicrous that anyone would even start to hold my daughter to blame.

I do want to thank those of you wishing me well. It means a great deal to me.

4pack, I did have a dog that I was way over my head with. I located a trainer and got help, We worked it out on the FEILD with the help of a trainer. That dog was not safe, because I did not have a clue. I took awhile to understand the rules of the road. I think someone should put out the "Rossetta Stone" for dogs.

That is just awful what happened to this woman.

I am a complete newbie to Schutzhund (less than 2 months)  I have been taking my working line bitch who just turned 2 years old. ( We have owned  4 months) We are really enjoying learning the sport and she is clearly bred for this type of work and doing fantastic. She sleeps in my husband and my bedroom everynight and jumps into the bed to wake my 8 year old daughter up each morning for school.  She is a wonderful girl but very high drive and full of it.

That being said would I never let someone pet her on the training field No Way,  Because she is so new to the sport I realize there is a learning curve and I must take every precaution to protect anyone who may wish to approach her. I don't allow people to approach the car when I have another dog out to be trained when she is in the car either.

My 8 year old daughter who has grown up with shepherds comes to training as well. She has grown up her entire life with a pack of german shepherds and has no fear, but she does have a healthy respect for the dogs.  She steers well clear of all dogs during training and even our own dogs until we get into the car where the dog falls fast asleep after working with her head in my daughter's lap.

It is so highly irresponsible of that dog's owner to allow the dog to be petted.  I have been asked by people to pet my dogs and some of them it is no problem but others I politely say "no" they are still in training.  If you have any feeling about the dog's reaction you should never take a chance.

I hope you heal well.
