Matt, My reply was meant tongue in cheek.!!! Matt it is my experience in GSDs you are judged not only on knowledge but what you give and do for the breed, (and that is in your own hands, no one else's)   As for the club,- being part of a club is the easy bit, not letting it stagnate and taking it forward is the harder part. (something else to be judged on.)

Joyce

Stagnate that’s putting it mildly a good club gone to waste they couldn’t even keep a training club going, the committee couldn’t be bothered to turn up, so stuff the members and what they wanted or even needed!!!!!!!!!!  Being on a committee means putting yourself out a little bit, I know, I was on a committee for 15 years, you dont get any thanks for doing it, but, that’s what you just have to do.

My comment or question to Linda was done tongue in cheek if as anyone who knows me would know my sense of humour.Joyce my comments to you were a generalisation on how  i feel when i go to shows,i`m lucky to get a hello from alot of our own club members. How can we take a club forward when the members are not bothered about training?

Everyone could say alot and critisise everyone else but this aint the place for it.

Karen if you have something to say to me please feel free to say it too my face and not slag me off on a message board.I cannot answer for our other committee members but im sure you will hear from them.Feel free to take over the running of the club as your comments have helped me decide to quit as secretary.Who will run the club now??

NO Chairman   NO secretary  and 2 committee members resigned.Nice going

Are we all happy now ??

Matt   As you have decided to address me personally I will answer you. As far as people not speaking to you at shows, do you approach people and speak to them???? You have to put yourself about a bit and make conversation with other exhibitors; you’re the one who should make the effort not others. We have all been through it when we came into the breed.     Please explain to me why you stood as secretary?????   What were your intentions for the club????    I don’t know who told you that the members were not bothered about training, we asked about training constantly and were told it was not on. Twice we turned up and there were no committee members there. Your treasurer even stated that he didn’t want a training club, or were you not told about that. It’s not just about a training this club, this club was known for its educational talks, barbecues, puppy walk, ECT. Theres none of that now. A club is more than training and shows. As far you asking me to take over, ive been there done that and not only got the t-shirt but the whole outfit. As far as slagging you off, [your word not mine] I am not, I am stating facts Matt, not just to you, but to the whole committee. But it is funny, I can remember not so long ago you calling somebody on here about selling you a bitch you were not happy about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Now if some correspondence on a message board makes you and your fellow officers feel like you need to resin from your positions, well that’s fine go ahead and do it, it wont put the club in any worse state than it is already in, and it proves to me that your involvement in this club must be for other reason other than running a successful German Shepherd Dog club for the breed and it members. Stop winging and get on with it for god sake, i really canot be bothered with people like you, Self pity comes to mind.

Hi Matt

Maybe with a brief History lesson I can help you understand where Karen & perhaps others are coming from. Take my area Breed Club for example,  I remember the times it was standing room only at West Yks AGM's, when enough nominations were put forward to form three committee's so the handing out of members voting slips was a regular occurance. Not so hot the competition for Club Officers though, mainly because in those days people realised what important, yes even prestigious positions these were so (unless you had previously occupied the position) you had to earn officer status by first getting onto the committee and working your way up (as it were) and I mean working,  West Yks tradition of first 'show' job for Newbie Committee member was Sh** Shoveller, no joke, I mean that literally!! In those days however, even the word 'Newbie' had a whole new concept to what it means today. Howver what a Newbie means now to what it meant then is in itself a whole different concept, it was great when you were considered a Newbie, because it meant you had at last acquired some form of recognition!! From the status of 'invisible' nobody to Newbie took me around 5yrs, that didnt mean nobody knew me, of course they did (in my area) if only because I had been taken under the wing of a respected breeder, but it was my ownership of my third show dog (and first female) that I became recognised up and down the country and it was then I achieved Newbie status. That was the first step, the next was to make it in your OWN RIGHT and that takes a bit more time and a lot more work.

Sadly those days are gone, now a club is lucky to have a full committee with the Officers positions being up for grabs by everyone or more to the point ANYONE prepared to do the job. Believe me Matt one thing has never changed, position of Club Sec has always been a Thankless Job, the knowledge of putting on a good show, that ran smoothly and which everyone enjoyed enough to come and support your next one is all the satisfaction you should need, if you need more then your dissapointments will be many for the most you can hope for may be a pat on the back from your club chairman at the next committee meeting !!

Matt, as current Secretary of West Yks I can assure you I needed the job like a hole in the head. I took it simply because there was no-one else prepared to do it. I couldn't bare the thought of my beloved Club been left in jeopody without someone to fill this necessary role, so I volunteered until such time as they could find someone else, I am now a volunteer for the 2nd year running.  I certainly didnt take nor needed the position for praise or recognition. Anyway not sure if any of this helps you or not but try to think on this, "You don't have to be someone's bossom budy to gain their respect but you do have to earn it first".  All the best with your position and as Karen says, you need to approach people yourself , dont wait for them to approach you, I am not at shows much anymore but if you see me at one come up and introduce yourself to me,  I talk to anybody me, just ask anyone !!

This whole post shows that members of our club after 4 years dont know me at all or they would know my sense of humour. What started out as a joke has got to the point of people publicly attacking our club and committee.

The dog you refer to Karen was nothing to do with you so why bring up something from 2 yrs ago that was sorted by those involved.I never had a problem with the dog.

I took over as secretary as no one else wanted it andi wanted to keep a well respected club going would you have come forward if i didnt or would the club have folded  what did you want? This is my first involvement as a secretary of a club so it takes time.I was never told about any puppy walks, education al talks or bbq`s or even invited to any since i joined so what does that say. Were myself or the wife as members ever invited to any party or club do since we joined?? wonder why not. Before i took over i never heard of any educational talks when was the last one ? please tell me.Didn`t a group of members recently take their dogs to a local park which happens to be 2 mins from me.Was this a club thing or just the group that do this sort of thing together?

I will not publicly answer your comment on training that can wait for the agm.

What state was the club in when i took over??  the same as now no worse or better.

Please enlighten me on what my intentions for the club were as you know me better than i know myself or so it seems.

Stop whinging?? not publicly answering that one.

If you cant be bothered with people like me then why did you pay your membership after you more than once said you didnt want to remain a member of the club??

See you at the AGM  i will not make any more comments on here about this.

Matt
