Hmmmm,

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/07/24/1220011.aspx

U.S. military official tells NBC News they were making preparations for Sen. Barack Obama to visit wounded troops at the Landstuhl Medical Center at Ramstein, Germany on Friday, but "for some reason the visit was called off."

One military official who was working on the Obama visit said because political candidates are prohibited from using military installations as campaign backdrops, Obama's representatives were told, "he could only bring two or three of his Senate staff member, no campaign officials or workers." In addition, "Obama could not bring any media. Only military photographers would be permitted to record Obama's visit."

The official said "We didn't know why" the request to visit the wounded troops was withdrawn. "He (Obama) was more than welcome. We were all ready for him."

If it isn't a photo op, the Dalai Obama isn't interested. Why should he be? He's only real when the media's there to pretend that he is.

There is something very disturbing about Barack Obama. Something that should give every 'citizen' pause. It is becomming more apparent with each passing day. Forget his lack of credentials. Never mind his deficient intellectual bona fides. Ignore his past. Dimiss his inexperience. Overlook whatever you might find objectionable about him. The man actuall thinks he can hoowink enough voters with his gift of gab to win. Never have I seen a man so diliberate, confidant and certain with so little.

The only anaolgy I can offer is a 'rap star' being accusedf of Shakespear.

RPK, I am not crazy about Obama - but I am not crazy about McCain either. Obama lacks experience and McCain will get us into another war and quite honestly he is not temperamentally suited to be president. May be it was his years as a POW being tortured that took its toll on him - not a knock on him because any person who went through what he did would be scarred.

But I would take either of them in a heart-beat over Bush who has been an unmitigated disaster. No matter who wins I have no doubt that he will be better than Bush. I hear Obama referred to as an "empty suit"  but he at least talks a good game. In the case of Bush we have an "empty suit" who cannot put together two sentences that makes sense. To make matters worse he totally lacks any intellectual curiosity. McCain, I actually used to admire because I felt that he was a man of principle - but all that seems to have gone aboard as he tries to cater to his base.

It will take us another ten years at  the very least before we are able to undo the damage that Bush has caused no matter who succeeds him. The economy is shot, the dollar is crumbling, our debt has increased by trillions,  we are a debtor nation that survives only because China, Japan and the oil producing countries are buying our bonds, we are caught up in two wars, etc. It amazes me that there is still 28% of the country who still supports him - and it begs the question as to what exactly would Bush have to do to the country before those people decide that he is not worthy of support. But then, at the height of Watergate when Nixon resigned, he still had about 26% support - so there is always a group of people who are diehard supporters of any president. At least Nixon - whatever his other defects - was an intelligent man with some foreign policy accomplishments.

Like I said in one of my first posts, I am one of the fortunate ones because circumstances enabled me to accumulate enough assets over the past thirty years that I don't have to work another day. I retired when I was 48 years old and lead a very comfortable life and absent a financial catastrophe, I will be fine. I do feel for those who are struggling from day to day to make both ends meet  but then like I said in my first post, one just has to adjust to the changing times.

Nice posts, BabyEagle.  You clearly understand the tough situation our country is in and why.
