There is a GSD Breed Council Meeting this coming week-end: Will the GSD Breed Council make any decisions which will offer any hope to the GSD Show Scene in the UK? They cannot work miracles; however they need to offer HOPE. They could at least establish an agreement "in principle" on some or all of the following:
1) GSD Breed Club Championship Shows should AIM to be held at least ONCE EACH MONTH throughout the year.
2) It is desirable to have our most popular GSD CH. Shows (those with the highest entry) held every year.
3) GSD Clubs that want to GIVE UP CC status - to urgently notify the BC, so that decisions/recommendations for the reallocation of their CC's can be made which benefits the future of our GSD Show Scene.
4) Investigate as to why the SKC has TWO sets of GSD CC's every year - with consistently LOW ENTRIES.
5) Raise with the KC the reallocation of some GSD CC's "FROM GENERAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWS" TO GSD BREED CLUB SHOWS.
6) Introduce GSD CH. SHOW Extravaganza weekends - two CH. Shows held on one weekend at the same venue - back to back.
7) Gather opinion regarding the future of our TWO DAY SHOW - being held in the UK "centrally" each year - and in IRELAND each year.
8) Consider the current SHOW TRAINING facilities throughout the UK - develop plans for improvement.
9) Consider current educational opportunities regarding SHOWING GSD - develop plans for improvement.
10) Consider a training scheme for "HANDLERS" with Certificate of competence and ongoing refresher/ top up training.
11) Consider a future MAJOR SHOW EVENT for JUNIOR HANDLERS - where every dog must be handled by a JUNIOR.
12) Organise a 1 day conference for the UK's  "significant" Show Kennels - (perhaps between 15 & 20 in number) to discuss ideas for quickly improving our GSD SHOW SCENE in the UK, and for them to formulate a priority list of their
TOP 10 SUGGESTIONS.

Ifanyone properly understands 'Protocol' i.e The following of correct meeting proceedure, they would realise that discussing any of the above points with a view to making decisions would only be possible if they were already on the Agenda.

Any other business - at the discretion of the Chairman

When an organisation allows "PROTOCOL" to impede "important matters" - that organisation has FAILED.

When a person refers to PROTOCOL to avoid important debate, or draw attention to themselves - they should re-evaluate themselves!

I sincerely hope that ALL GSD Breed Clubs send a "representative" to the forthcoming Breed Council Meeting. I understand that usual attendance is less than ONE THIRD - MINORITY RULE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR OUR BREED.

Most meeting Agenda's have an "Any other business" option.  These points could be raised under that and would not break protocol.

I would just like to comment on 1 thing which I do find very important to me is regarding the 2 Day Show venue.  I would still like it not to change, I enjoy each year going to Weston Park, Wales, Ireland and Scotland.  If it was at Weston Park over 10 years it would start to get a little boring and then me and Philip would never get a sort of holiday as when you have got dogs its hard to go away on a proper holiday, I am sure that is the same for most people.  And if Ireland held a big show each year, I don't know if they would get enough entries every  year either and the show might start going a little flat, as to go to Ireland is very expensive as when we went last year it cost us just over a £1000.     I know we diddn't attend Scotland 2 Day show in the end, as we did have a feeling it would not be worth going, luckily by the sounds of it my Lady's intuition was right.  Hopefully in the next 4 years, it will be a great show and we are all another 4 years older!

We are now looking forward to the Wales 2 Day show, which I am sure will be a super show.   Also David I hope I haven't offended you on my opinion as I know you don't agree with me.

Philip's opinion is yes it should be held at Weston Park each year and yes I had a small dissagreement with him and called him boring and all you want to do is save money instead of living life.

Kerry we know what men are like when it comes to saving money as we both know.Me and you had booked a lovely little hotel for the two day show.....£120 per night.

The men were having none of it and put there size 11 feet down and insited we find somewhere cheaper,so we did £60 per night. As kerry and her beloved didnt make the show we cancelled their room in advance. When we arrived at the two day we went staright to the venue and was told by many people who had stayed the night in our said hotel that it was awlful. And they all werent going back and had booked into other hotels.

I refused to go to the said hotel and put my little size 4 feet down and we also went and found another hotel( they only had the handicapped room left) we took it , and so saved no money at all.

So that was our little story from the weekend, and also  a  lesson for all the men out there.......CHEAPEST isnt always cheapest.

Beepy, You are correct  but in AOB only discussion can take place, no decisions can be made. Getting back to living in the REAL world, all the above was correctly ITEMISED on a previous BC Agenda and not even permitted to be discussed, so what makes anyone think requesting these be discussed in AOB is going to make a difference?

Videx, Can't you EVER, even just for ONCE , manage to hold a debate WITHOUT getting personal? It would be a refreshing change !

That said, far from hiding behind 'Protocol' , people/Clubs must make their mind up which way they want it to be, you cant have it both ways - in that it's OK to Break Protocol i.e Rules, on a matter that suits you but a Mortal Sin (or as previously has being described an abuse of position) when done by someone else on a topic that doesnt suit you. (I use the word YOU in general terms, so please no-one get paranoid here).  Either all are allowed to turn up at a BC Meeting where delegates are allowed to discuss and vote on anything (without previous consultation with their commitee's), or they keep to Protocol and follow the BC Constitution.

Rules are put in place for reasons, they are there to keep Order as well as give everyone the same equal rights and opportunity. If rules to a constitution are broken then you have Right of Appeal. If certain people are allowed to break the rules then you have Dictatorship, if everyone or anyone is consistently allowed to break the rules then you have Anarchy.

Make you choice;-  Order with Constitutional Right of Appeal  / or /  Dictatorship and Anarchy , YOU DECIDE !

Regards

Sue B
