Man. What a post and what directions it has went!
I must say, some of the name-calling has been quite humorous. ROFL!
Thanks for the laugh!

Joseph,

I tried to find out what happened with your great grandma but I got lost amongst the flaming.  Assuming I somehow live to be 87 and I can still remember what year it is, I will have a GSD.  There have definitely been some valid concerns posted here but you don't seem impulsive or unintelligent so I am sure you will make the proper decision based on your great grandma and the individual dog.

I see no reason why, however, to automatically rule out every single GSD simply because of the age of  the woman.  There are plenty of GSD service dogs out there with the elderly.  As a matter of fact, you may want to contact 1 of those organizations.  My wife works with a woman who used to train service dogs and there are dogs that fail for a given reason that are then adopted out.  I have a friend with a GSD who is a failed seeing eye dog also.

In any case, I hope things work out ok for you.  I am sure you will make an educated decision.
