Vianden: Not arguing any points..Lot of people look at the show dog and think they are just pretty little pictures...I dont keep mine in show cut any longer except for Maggie and Sara because of the popularity with the public..

I have a sable cocker,,Aria, and she is 12, .she is the one with the gsd I posted on the other thread, about a week ago...and no they threw them out of the showring...

I would be rich if I could find something to do with dog hair..

I spend a lot of time shampooing cockers as they collect every stinky smell alive even with hair cut shorter..Heavy coats and they get into and under and on top of everything...got to check it out..or dig it up..Mine go after gophers, moles and anything that moves. I need a portion of stock in a shampoo company.  lol

My red/white Dutchess, was from Beverly Schielly  up in Ohio.and she had a lot of the old cocker lines in her.Artristry , Laurims, Homestead, Orients, schielly and one or two Frandee.  Artristry 's,Soot and Cinders and  Kingspoint Mahogany Man were both sables in her line.

I groom mine too and I have more money in blades and Oster clippers than I do my own shoes and purses.

The above photo is of my Old Collie Charlie, With him climbing on his back is 10 week old 'Fred' now 20 months old

Charlie was nearly 13 years old at the time the photo was taken

He died at 14 years old, about 13 months ago.

And  although i have the two GS Dogs Fred and Goran,

I still miss and think of the old Dog every day since he passed on

I have always owned German Shepherds. If I were to consider another breed it would have to be either a Rottweiler, Malamute, Border Collie or Spaniel.

The little chappie in the photos here is Beau, a Spaniel cross. My husband rescued him from a nasty individual when he was a pup in a view to us finding a good forever home for him. But he is such a wonderful, sweet natured and loving dog, he stayed and 10 yrs on he is still here with us as a much loved member of our family. Beau was supposed to be a Cavalier King Charles, but he appears to have some other Spaniel mixes in his breeding. He has bundles of energy and will play all day if he could. He loves nothing better than retrieving and at 10 yrs old he will still try to outrun my 2 younger GSDs, he has such a competitive nature.

LOL Shelly - that breed would be on the very END of my list - AFTER all the mutts, Doodles, Puggles, and hairless ugly sickly-looking toothless ones.  LOLOL

From a purely aesthetic perspective I've always like the look of a well bred Boxer - especially the brindles.

And from a character perspective I must admit I have a grudging admiration for Jack Russells. They're neither respectors of size or authority & are quite often their own man (or dog) but you just gotta doff your cap to 'em.

I suppose that's why we all like GSDs, what other dog has such a great combination of both qualities?
