Dear GSD-fans,

my latest study is in German again, I'm sorry, but the (red) link contained therein speaks volumes and can be interpreted without any problem, it figures only names you are all very familiar with. In fact it shows the bloodlines of all of the the most active SV-studs, based on my former study: "The studbusiness in the SV: 2003-2007" (also on my weblog with impressive easy to understand charts in Excel- and PDF-format). You will come to the conclusion, that the current GSD-breed is no longer based on a wide variety of wonderful bloodlines, but on the contrary, is building on one single bloodline...

Or how one president and his best friend can dictate the future of this wonderful breed.

My paper (including link to the excel-file with bloodlines of 130 important studs) can be read here:

http://www.bloggen.be/hd/archief.php?ID=138

Intro:

Read more on my weblog. You are all most welcome.   Enjoy!   Jan Demeyere 8570 Vichte Belgium

Hi Jan

Thanks I have saved the workbook, nothing you have said supprises me and I have been saying this to those that are willing to listen for the last couple of years, more showline breeders need to be bringing in fresh bloodlines into their breeding programmes before it is too late for the breed to recover.

I would love to read your paper but I don't read German.  Is there a translation?

to a lesser degree the same can be said for the working line dogs.  only through human ignorance and greed have we seen breeders in america start to create a new bloodline of german shepherd with the crossing of working, show, czech, slovik, and american dogs.  while it still may be many years to see how it all plays out, it is something to watch.

a breeder/trainer/friend of mine calls his "half breeds",,,half show, half working.

too many people feel the more linebreeding the better.  they should look at the number of succesful outcross dogs and do some homework.

Jan,

Thank you for sharing...your paper is beautifully written. Huge egos and greed, is the evil that will deminish the true characteristics of this lovely breed.

John,

I agree. Thought I was the only one that had confidence in outcross breeding.

Jasmine, John,

You guy's are not alone,  I don't see how you can improve a breed by continuously line breeding.  No diversity.

Only by adding diversity will you see anything new or improved, otherwise you might as well start cloning.

Brent.
