For those of us who could not go or did not go, let's try to fill in the picture. Tracking started this morning with wet conditions and some fog. This should be good for those with the luck of the draw as the remainder should have very dry conditions. So lets put up what we hear from only people that report from onsight and lets for a change keep it positive as those competing have worked hard to get there.

Why are results so slow in posting?  There aren't even any draw results up yet and that happened last night.

RC, well said. I hope people do post correct information, first hand not hearsay.

They have posted some results as of 12:30 EST...I was told they would be trying to update every 2 hours.

We had a helper here this summer from the Czech Republic and he could certainly have outrun many a dog on the escape. But, as Doug says above, "Safety, proper technique, testing the dog, following the trial rules and being consistent for all dogs is what helper work should be about" and that should especially be true in championships, and even at the local trial.

One problem is that it rained a lot yesterday. The infield had sod laid on it but they removed no dirt so that the infield sod is higher than the outfield sod, thus necessitating a change in pattern on at least the long bite, which is now apparently considerably shorter because the helper goes from the blind diagonally to the center line, thus missing the uneven turf.

Several friends have said attendance is not very good and worse, signage is not there or incorrect in some instances. The host motel has their sign as WSUV ........SHOW....LOL Oh Well.

Critiques are in German without a translator present. Two judges had to be replaced because of illness. Not a propitious start. Here's wishing it goes well for most competitors.

There is a flight path overhead that makes it near impossible to out your dog at a distance if the plane is overhead.  Three points are in jeopardy for a second out for some teams.

by realcold on 09 October 2008 - 20:10

Send out would be the same.

It would be difficult to provide translators for all the different languages presented by the many attending nationalities. Individual teams may have brought their own translator, or maybe someone on the team knows enough German to interpret for her/his team.

by hodie on 09 October 2008 - 22:10

It is as much about the spectators who deserve translations in at least three languages, including English, German and perhaps one other. Yes, teams, including our friends competing, have assistance with translation and the competitors likely also know for the most part what was and was not good about their work. But world class events should have translators. We even do this for the Sieger Shows.

This event is taking place in AMERICA, and there should be a translation in English. Period. Those of you who have been in schutzhund for more than 15 minutes, pray tell, what trial have you trialed in or observed, where the judge spoke no English, and there was no translator on purpose? Case closed. Real cold: the flight path has NOT been an issue, except for 2 critiques that we can't understand anyway. There were 4 flights over in the morning prior to 10 and one aboout 2:30. No dogs had issues in send out, or outting because of planes overhead. None were at those times.
