I would train the dog and if the dog was good enough I would bred him. If he produced well I would breed him more.

Blue is a simply a fault. Almost any dog that has outstanding traits should be bred. The only faults that should preclude the dog from being bred are those that impact working ability. A dog should be evaluated for breeding by looking at the total dog. If there was a blue dog that only produced perfect hips shouldn’t he be bred?

The only thing negative that can happen due to this fault is some skin issues. And I know for a fact that some of you on this board are breeding dogs with skin issues and or buying pups from parents with skin problems. So what’s the difference? Do bad guys care that it’s a blue dog biting their ass?

Chris, Why do you Mal people take such apparent delight in claiming you would breed anything that worked when it comes to gsds? I know for a fact that neither, YOU, nor Mike Ellis, nor Lisa Maze, nor Ivan, nor Augusta would breed a dog with poor temperament, so I know that you do have some standards other than "it works". :-) Yvette, Stupid club!! And, you say it folded. That's why usually happens with clubs that have stupidity at the core of its "club values." The one I am acquainted with was 4 guys who decided that only "serious competitors" have any business training. The idiots rqan off the women members and the guys with less hormones/higher IQs. The end result was they held a trial a few months later. Lo and behold, you need a GROUP for the OB portion of the trial!! They had to ask spectators to be the group for the trial. Of course, they had no food or beverages--they hadn't thought of it and had no members, or spouses, to handle it for a trial. Oh, and the clubnearly folded within months. They had to "attract" new members who were women and non-podium-obsessed males. Oh, and those hard core "serious competitors"? They virtually disappeared: one stepped onto a trial field for the first time in years, for a "B" just this month; two are out of the sport and have been for years; one sells a lot of dogs, but hasn't trialed for years. Yep, a core-culture of stupidity is a recipe for extinction for a sch club.

I'm not a "Mal person": I'm a working dog person. I don't care about breeds.

Dogs with poor temperament can't work. And what does blue have to do with the temperament?

Mals also come in blue also so we can make a direct comparison. I just bought a puppy that may have the blue gene. His father has produced blues. Mike and Lisa have just used a blue stud dog. I would bet my last dollar that if there was a blue dog that could win major trials Ivan would own it and breed it in a heart beat.

Our club www.bosenkinder.com doesn't care if you bring out a pink giraffe, as long as it insn't dangerous to others and you are willing to put in the time, effort and commitment to title it to as far as it can go... We welcome all breeds, bloodlines etc., of dogs and humans!

That said, breeding that giraffe is an entirely different matter.

Hi Steve, Yes, and the couple of guys still in the sport continue to endear themselves!! It's rather like the line from "The Sixth Sense": - I see stupid people. They are everywhere. They don't even know that they're stupid. LOL
