Yeah, well they never made us do the quarantine stretch... we (people) have always been allowed to pop over and view!

Bancroft, still waiting on that info... you know, the showlines you've owned / worked.

I know that PEOPLE were not subject to the quarantine, but dogs were--so, obviously that would impact on the showing and breeding  by sending dogs to Germany at that time...which was NOT all that long ago.  Ergo, my question remains unanswered, too.

26 schutzhund clubs is not a bad start.   There are over 200 USA clubs alone, plus DVG clubs, and WDA clubs in the US.  Each organization has several  regional championships, as well as a national championship each year.  Add to that the club trials and the "small community" is in fact quite active.

Bancroft.

Okay, so when I go to London, or Glasgow,  after a bit of the theater and roving thorugh museums, I want to see the  Scottish Highlands and the workign dogs!!  So, where are the clubs listed on the League's site in relation to either London or Galsgow, or Dunvegan(sp) Castle?

Mystere, of course it's easier now, and quite a few people actually compete abroad, (which may account for Sch becoming more popular) rather than simply view.  A great many dogs have been imported over the years and a great many bitches sent over for mating.  Some of the bigger breeders had / have their own quaranteen kennels... so, less of a problem for them!

I wouldn't like to guess the % of A.I. but certainly, it was used.  I don't think we missed out hugely.

I look at Australia and think... maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if we had had this vacuum.

If you're stuck, here's a list of clubs (GSD Clubs) although not all (%?) participate in Sch, they'll be able to point you in the right direction... they're generally pretty helpful and friendly!

Try Clyde Valley for Glasgow & Dunvegan... I doubt there's much on the Isle of Skye Sch wise, but you never know!

Australia hardly put itself in a vaccum with respect to either German bloodlines, OR  schutzhund!   The Aussies have been bringing over USA and Canadian judges for their schutzhund trials for years, more than ten.  They have also been very active with German judges, and seminars with Germans, Americans and Canadians, so I do not understand your reference at all.   It is entirely inaccurate.

The British were in enough of a vaccum that, until very recently, one could spot an English-line gsd as easily and accurately as an American-line gsd.  They both have that look from "genetic drift" that "distinquishes" them from the European lines (although, the Belgian lines are, IMO, also easily recognized on sight, too).

Bancroft--thank you for the contact information.  I have not taken a vacation that did not involve dogs in some way for nearly 20 years, so I KNOW that when I go to Paris or London, I am going to be looking for the nearest  schutzhund or RCI club within a day or so.   Frankly, I want to hit the dog club before even going to the Louvre!! Those painting will be there...

You "sound" a little ... tense, Mystere... is there a problem?

The importation of Shepherds was banned in Australia for years.... I think it worked in their favour personally!  I am not inaccurate, entirely or otherwise.

Re: your second paragraph, I can only assume that you refer to the "English" type... not something most of us dabble in, thanks!  The most common type here is German, has been for many, many years.

I've always been on the German side of the dog fence. I wouldn't like to guess the % of A.I. but certainly, it was used.  I don't think we missed out hugely. (Missbeeb)

Well, that is certainly an interesting  story, little problem - the SV does not allow AI, natural breedings only.  This is one of the major expenses in other countries since they must actually take their bitches to Germany if they wish to use German dogs.
