I seem to remember hearing that Don was oversized as well. His grandson, a virtual clone of his, Dargo vd Thuringer Kronjuwelen (my male's sire) was oversized as well. I don't remember his exact measurements, and I don't want to misquote, so I'll refrain from guessing. My male is 27" at the shoulder and if he was owned by anyone else, would probably be 110-115lbs. He weighs about 97 and is very very thin. While I would not intentionally breed a dog that large, his size does not affect him in any negative way. He is far more agile than most GSDs I have met who are half his size. I would be curious to talk to someone who remembers the actual dog, and not just what they heard about him.

Aren't we lucky to have the remnants of the DDR Legends bottom feeders spewing forth their toxic trash. Notably, DDR SDG, who is dangerous enough to know little of not much and threatens and attacks those that do not agree with her slanted way of seeing things. Then there's Dogma, the foul-mouthed creten who can't write anything that makes sense to anyone.  Who else? I'll just have to look around.

My my my......  who's Johnsons are the biggest here, LOL!

I absolutely abhor the idiotic and willfully blind, double standard, breed standard bigotry.

It never fails to amaze me that some folks say "oh, that['s a fault so don't breed them" when it comes to traits  outside the breed standard, and then admit that the roachback angulated abominations came completely from somewhere outside the original breed standard.

The notion of "faults" in any animal ought to be related to health and personality - not size or color.

Some folks prefer large GSD, some small, some standard colors, some unusual colors.  The "standard" should be accepting of all colors and sizes - unless the size or color is linked to health or other problems.

The argument that something should not be bred because it is "outside the bereed standard, and the integrity of the breed standard should be maintained"  is like saying "I believe in the bible because the bible tells me so" - it's circular and makes no real sense.

What if - what if - what if - a spontaneous mutation occurred that let a hmmmmmm... say white GSD live without any health problems for over 20 years - or 25 years....  what if the change was actually an improvement in the GSD breed itself - it isn't "breed standard" but it's BETTER than breed standard....  it foolishness of the stagnation of the standard would become readily apparent.

What if an "oversized" GSD had  a stronger heart and better circulatory system that let it live healthier than smaller GSDs - would the standard really fill the goal of producing improvements in the breed by limiting the sizes?

Comments like "overweight slovenly women" are patently ridiculous, but comments like "get a Great Dane" or "pony" are equally limiting in terms of the discussion, imo.

IMO the pony remark was an attempt to lighten the mood this thread was taking (with the name calling ).
