Now THAT, is probably the truth, Reason.  They're pretty skilled at doing nothing!

We do NOT have to wait until the 30th March 2009. "The GSD Partnership" should now proceed with the utmost speed and thoroughness, and prepare their comprehensive response to the Kennel Club. This will presumably take a few weeks, and can get off to a great start, I hope, with the GSD Breed Council meeting this coming Saturday. The BAGSD and The GSD League can also take the necessary decisions and actions to formulate their comtribution to the comprehensive response, including communicating with the SV. Then "The GSD Partnership" can put it all together for SENDING to the Kennel Club, hopefully by the end of February 2009 at the latest. If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well, let us be patient, determined and supportive.

the photo of the dog in the new English standard doesn't look like any of the past VA winners on the VA site - not even the first few.

what are they thinking?

SitasMom, is there a link for the British VA winners? I couldn't find one on the kennel club page, and I'd be interested in seeing how they compare with the German VA's.

Reply from the KC re international judges.

Thank you for your recent email requesting an explanation on the effect of recent changes to Kennel Club Breed Standards on international competition.
As you are aware the number one priority for the Kennel Club in reviewing its breed standards was to produce healthier dogs and the Kennel Club will communicate this to its overseas’ partners to ask that each gives serious consideration to accepting the Kennel Club’s changes for this overriding reason. However realistically in a number of instances international competition may be limited as a result, however if the KC system is producing healthier dogs this has to be our main concern.   As far as judges coming from overseas to officiate at KC licensed shows the same conditions will apply as they do now – judges are required to judge to KC standards - UK judges when officiating overseas are required to judge to FCI standards. Each judge will have to adapt their judging to the required standard. This is no different to what happens now where there are differences in breed standards across the world. This is not ideal but we have to address health issues in this country and we will be encouraging other countries to do so too.   Yours sincerely,   Kathryn Symns Canine Activities Executive

As we all know... it's very different if the standard is different!  I still say... get rid of the KC.
